why is that a problem?

I'm very surprised nobody has suggested the light type, or at least a brand new type, light or not.

Does this look anything like what any pre-existing typed eeveelution would look like? Theres a TON of fan-made conceptions out there, and this is nothing like them. A normal evolution would probably look a lot more like eevee rather than this.

Gamefreak has said that there was gonna be more emphasis on pokemon typing. Plus I believe Light was intended back in GSC, when they added Dark and Steel instead.

Finally, why would its typing be such a secret if it was just going to be flying or normal? Why reveal this pokemon in particular at all this early? It's a new type, bank on it.

It's the lightest Eeveelution, and its name seems to come from Slyph, an air spirit.
(Alternatively French and German names are nymph and fairy.)

As for male/female being different types, I doubt that. The name always has a connection to the element.
