why not ash and green?

There's a difference between the two. While Ash is someone who goes to every region and restarts his journey, Red became a master, beat his rival, and lived his life in Kanto until Ethan dethroned him on Mt. Silver.

Actually, Red got challenged by the Elite Four, then got FROZEN and his Pikachu escaped and Yellow, who found his Pikachu, went looking for him, saved him, and he got so depressed over it he went to Mt. Silver to constantly train. Then Gold (Wasn't Ethan until Heart Gold/Soul Silver) found him, and beat him. Red only then returned home. Later, Red, Green, Blue, Oak, Gold, Silver, and some other people ALL DIE AND GET TURNED TO STONE BY DYOXYS. Manga ftw.
