I'm surprised he didn't ask it to join his crew.

He already had a skeleton, which is much more cooler than that faggot zombie. + he was a musician.

No he didn't. Brook didn't join until the very end of this arc.
#57 to #24 - meagree (07/05/2013) [-]
Funny because you're technically right but essentially wrong. Luffy asked Brook to join the moment he saw him, and he accepted (it just wasn't official).

im pretty sure he tried to ask a zombie later in that episode

After seeing all that set up and all that **** that's gonna happen with the 4 emperors, the lost century, the revolutionaries, and Raftel I can honestly not see One Piece becoming bad.

Whelp! the creator of One piece said that when they made the timeskip (517 something) to be the halfway through the series, so if u watch the anime, they'll make to approximately 1100 episodes total, meaning we have a small 400-600 episodes to come ^^

Is One Piece good? Would you recommend watching it?
User avatar #30 to #29 - captnnorway (07/05/2013) [-]
Ye it's OK. I've only got 100ish episodes in, but the characters are funny, quite intersting stories. Main idiot can be a bit annoying at times, it can feel like the producers make him stupider by the episode. Other than that it's good brainless entertainment that will last for a very long time.
User avatar #50 to #29 - drdonothing (07/05/2013) [-]
Yes, i've read the manga twice all the way through. Sometimes i feel that some fight scenes are ruined because he luffy doesn't stay serious all the way through them but this is very rare and usually on minor fights anyway.

FEEEFEFEEEFEEEFEE! It's a great anime/manga. You'll understand the first part if you watch it.

One piece is really good but if you didn't watch it as a kid it might be difficult to accept the art. If you are able to get in to it on the other hand It is among the best anime I know but the arcs get more dragged out the longer in you get. It is awesome the first 50 eps (before what i think is a filler before they get into grand line). After they get into grand line there is a lot of build up before the cool things happen and there will be a lot of parts you want to skip to get to the cool things. The best part about One piece is how almost all big players are in some way introduced before they appear and yet they still manage to make an awesome and refreshing appearance.

Comment #38 is pretty much spot on and while I haven't read very far in the manga it's probably better in many ways but i suggest the anime at least for the time until they reach grand line since the pace in those eps is how the anime should be shown.
#37 to #29 - cjasper (07/05/2013) [-]
I've watched all eps of the anime, it is worth watching, though the first 200 eps are a bit dry. It gets really good after the waters 7 arc.
User avatar #31 to #29 - heavymetalninja (07/05/2013) [-]
I've never watched the anime, but I've read 600 chapters of the manga, and it's my absolute favorite. As captnnorway said, it's good brainless entertainment, up until around chapter 300 (I don't know how far into the anime that is), then it start to get really serious and it seems that the things the heroes do actually start to have purpose (also LOTS AND LOTS of great feels)

One Piece is a good, solid bit of entertainment. It's not the most tense of stories but it is a shounen action series and it does that perfectly. It's filled with creative fight-scenes and good comedy and takes full advantage of it's length (it's over 700 manga chapters at about 20 pages each so far and showing no sings of slowing down, quite the opposite as it were) by foreshadowing things hundreds of chapters in advance.

What is currently happening has been coming for a great deal of time and we're already well acquainted with the big movers and shakers meaning that both sides of every conflict in One Piece get plenty of time to develop feelings both for and against them.

You'll have your work cut out for you as it'll be quite a while before you catch up to where the manga is at the moment but it's more than worth the read.

If you're going with the anime then that's good too. It serves it's purpose of being a moving version of the manga well and I don't really have any issues with it. The cast of the english dub fail completely when compared to the Japanese dub though as One Piece is a kind of series where it needs the bizarre accents and sharp sounds that the Japanese language contains in order to get the best out of it.

It's a solid series that will give you something to read/watch each week of consistently high-quality.

But the moment with bellamy was awesome. Luffy was a total boss and while I don't think I can chose which is the best moment in one piece i consider bellamy's asskicking to own this moment (because the fight looked quite a bit messed up at times).

You may be right, specially after the time warp arc, but the characters are so stupid and hilarious. They grow on to you. If you don't like them then good riddance, but what makes you think you are entitled to say something is stupid just because you don't like it?

I don't like much of the character design in One Piece, it's the main reason I don't watch the show

He's got a point. Luffy's outfit in that arc is pretty atrocious. Poorly colour-coordinated and messy. Granted, his appearance changes every arc so it's not completely true but most characters never change their appearance so you can't blame Icewraith for not knowing his **** in this exceptional case.
User avatar #41 to #39 - dharkmoswen (07/05/2013) [-]
Actually, he was made to look thrown together. If you look at the type of clothes available, Luffy's clothes are about the only ones that fit with his powers without being ripped to shreds. As far as the hat goes, it fit together with the original person who owned it's outfit, but since they were so special to Luffy, he wears it no matter what else he's wearing.

All in all, his outfit is actually VERY cleverly designed.
User avatar #43 to #41 - snowshark (07/05/2013) [-]
Cleverly designed and well designed are two different things, sadly. You could design your character to look really badass and cool but his outfit may be ridiculously impractical or you could design your character to be really practical but he looks boring/rediculous.

A well designed character merges form and function. The Iron Man suit is really impractically designed when you think about it. It's so streamlined and tight-fitting that the technology envolved with putting it on and taking it off, let alone the technology involved in actually making it work and it's weapons and such are so small that it's completely impractical.

However it still holds enough of a balance between the practicality that the universe presents (Stark's genius with tech) and the outfit looks just practical enough whilst being aesthetically pleasing to us that we can suspend our disbelief there.

With Luffy, yes it makes sense that he has no dress-sense and he's limited by the clothes he can wear but Oda has shown time and time again that he can design good outfits for Luffy that fit the mid-ground well. It may have been poorly designed on purpose to suit the needs of the aesthetic but that still necessitates it being poorly designed in the first place.
