Wait. Wouldn't mega punch only be half damage since Clefairy is a fairy-type? Somethings not quite right.
Unless of course this comic was made before gen VI. But that seems very unlikely.

The Encore move forces the opposing pokemon to use the same move they had last used. Each turn in a pokemon battle is played out after everyone selects their move. Clefairy is slower than Mankey, so it went last in the turn order. The trainer was planning on it being something useless for the situation, like a tail whip or a howl, but Clefairy being slower made the last move a Mega Punch, which means that the AI is forced to put out damage when it would normally stall to give the player a chance.

Encore forces you to use the same move until it's effect ends. So basically it's saying that Clefairy got ******* domed by Mankey, then used encore to make Mankey continue to punch it in the face.
