I was never my intention to suggest that there wasn't any exp in the in the first panel. But I see how you could of gotten mislead by how broad this is. (Show mercy its my first OC.)
I do hate explaining jokes but I'll do it for you. The first panel was a representation of me when I was younger playing Emerald. As a kid I cared little on leveling up my pokemon and focused on avoiding as many trainers as possible. I found them to be a nuisance and a waste of time. As I got older and more experienced at pokemon I grew more aware and more open to battles. I now won't let myself proceed to another area after battling every single trainer and obtaining their valuable exp.

X/Y really lowered to bar with the difficulty, most gym leaders don't even have their pokemon EV trained at all

I've always battled every trainer, and ran away from most fights. I love that catching now gets xp, makes catching everything more useful, then trade anything you have male and female of already in wonder trades, have stockpile of every single starter and a few random legendaries. Lovely people do that. I've put out a few torchic's and a few 1st gen and new gen starters that I had more than 2 of.

It's a lovely system, but I'm more overleveled than I've ever been in a pokemon game. I've just gotten the 4th badge, and already have over 200 pokemon in my pokedex and my lowest level of my 6 was roughly 15 levels over the last gym leaders highest. I also wish I'd stop gettin requests for random battles with people who all use the exact same team. I get it, Blaziken, Charizard, Venosaur, Mewtwo, X/Y legendaries are powerful, but let's have a little damn diversity.

Is anyone else finding it hard to keep up in levels in X and Y without training in the wild?

I actually feel the opposite of this, i feel that because my exp share effected my whole team, I had crazy high level pokemon by the time I hit elite 4

Damn near each one was in the mid 70's range with the exception of my Glaceon who I bred to be perfect nature right before the getting 7th badge, and he made it all the way to level 54 by the end

Horde battles are the best way to EV train,
you're finished in less than 10 minutes without the need to use vitamins!

<- those delicious 50 attack EV

Emulators, rare candy, and a team filled with overleveled pokemon. Oh do I love the fast forward feature. Grinding is so easy. One time, I leveled a whismur from level 13 to 22 in 5 minutes.

I've always done that. Experience isn't a new thing. I don't get it.

he's saying you start off weak and try to avoid trainer battles since they generally have stronger pokemon but as you get further into the game you go back and fight all the trainers you successfully bypassed.I think

for me its the opposite
early game: "yeah trainers i can get lots of XP"
late game: "you are not worth the time it takes to one shot all your pokemon so i will avoid a battle if i can"

Everyone talking about EV Training confuses me. Was it always a thing? Or only recent?

Money too. In Gen 1 if you run out of money depending on how far you are you can kinda be ******

Who had trouble ever beating the trainers? Sure, the gymleaders were kind of tough, but ordinary trainers were like, exp food.

did anyone ever realize you complete the regional pokedex by battling every trainer?
