Why is FJ so picky when it comes to OC...never actually understood that part of the FJ community.

When it's a repost, it's most of the time either by a spambot, an IP changer, or someone we generally don't know.
When someone posts OC, most of the time it's easily distinguishable as OC from the unique art style, see: gearboy, KERBE, or dare I say it, tardaasa.
In these cases, the posters are almost always active members of the community, e.g: They post frequently in addition to reading comments and writing them occasionally.
This creates something crucial here that allows us to pick on OC: A feedback loop. We can tell them their comic sucks, and there's a possibility they might read it and make better comics. It's a slim possibility, but it's still there. You can't tell a spambot to stop reposting (imfunnynet) but you can tell tardaasa that stupid penis jokes don't make for very good content. In this case it seems to have worked.
Keep in mind however that in this exact case, the poster's reputation has been forever tarnished so people are going to think it's bad even if it might be relatively good. This also sadly means that unless something monumental is posted by tardaasa, nothing's going to change. We're never going to suddently say "hey tardaasa's funny again" we're going to keep saying "oh another mediocre comic, and by tardaasa too. What a bummer"

Because we want FJ to be original and unique and contribute to the funnies of the web. We care about the quality of material on this site and its reputation because we like it and feel like we're part of it. It's understandable to me. Unfortunately 99% of us don't know how to make OC.
