Schrodinger's cat thought experiment is the exact opposite of what internet culture thinks it means.

The whole point of it is that it doesn't make sense. Schrodinger used it to counter a theory at the time that stated that particles exist in every possible state until observed.

The full experiment states that a cat is placed in a box along with a radioactive sample. The radioactive sample is hooked up to a Geiger counter. If the counter detects that the sample has decayed, it activates a mechanism that smashes a bottle of poison and kills the cat.

So, if the particles (the radioactive sample) exists in all states at the same time until observed (the box is closed so observation is impossible) that means that the sample is both decayed and not decayed at the same time which means that the cat has both been killed and not been killed, which makes no logical sense.
