20miles of wasted gas is way more than the 16 cents saved...

Maybe he decided to drive 20 more miles toward his destination in hopes to find another cheaper gas station.

No, the joke was that the writer wastes $10 a week on soda, but drives 20 miles to save 16 cents on gas.

The writer has not even considered that driving 20 miles uses a few dollars of gas.

To paraphrase XKCD; If you're spending 9 minutes to save less than a dollar, you're working for less than minimum wage.

And the extra gas required to drive 20 miles (probably about a gallon for non-SUV/Trucks) costs far more that he's saving.

Get a smaller reusable bottle?
Or go to the store and buy a pack of bottled soda (I presume that would be cheaper than $1 each).

I don't really care. The point of the post isn't that his soda machine is expensive, the writer was probably referring to $1 sodas, but it's still cheaper to buy from the store in bulk.

Buying one cup for £1 and a large bottle for £1 would be cheaper than buying multiple £1 small bottles every day

Near me in Britain there's a store that sell cups for £1, around $2, the size of a child's head.

I like it when Greggs offers you the 4 sausage rolls for £2 (Or whatever it is now-a-days with the ***** economy) when you're trying to buy just one.

They're basically saying "Would you like obesity with that? Its only an extra £1.30 (Assuming sausage rolls are 70p)

Though the cold pop you also must consider how coworkers and **** steal from the fridge everywhere so you either keep them in your desk and warm or spend money on other peoples drinks
