Our store has those "Smells like a real tree" scented things, and every time it senses movement it says so in a raspy voice because the quality is bad.

And if that wasn't mildly startling enough, next is creepy music that sounds like Halloween raped Christmas followed by the sound of a chainsaw.

I work nights, and around halloween I'd end up jumping out of my skin as soon as I heard it. I don't know WHO thought that providing sound without an image, especially of those particular sounds, was a good marketing strategy, but at least we now know how to turn it off so when we shut the music off at night and walk out the store we don't end up getting creeped out.

Christmas in general is creepy when it's late and the store is empty. You think that the Santas are watching you.

Then Christmastime comes around and it's not so bad, but right now, it's just weird.

My mom owns a tack shop and they had a decoration that played after it detected motion. Well one day one of her employee's didnt lock the side door all the way and it got blown open triggering the alarm. By the time mom got there the police already investigated. The officer said that he went in, couldnt find the light's so it was dark, and then all he heard was "I'd turn back if I were you" coming from in the dark. He said he almost shot it.

No, it's a cardboard stand with these little scent stick things you put on a fake christmas trees to make them smell real. Inside this stand is a little sensor that plays the audio whenever someone walks by.

Here's how it goes, every time someone trips the sensor by moving past it:

1. "Smells like a real tree" - in a raspy voice because the audio recording quality wasn't good and they never bothered to try again
2. Christmas music that sounds a whole lot darker than most Christmas music because it likely had to be original to avoid royalty fees. Kinda sounds like something out of Nightmare Before Christmas, definitely more suited to Halloween.
3. Chainsaw sounds because whatever monkey who created this monstrosity decided that would be the best noise to get you to think of fresh cut pine.

My store's gotten complaints over it, too, but until someone from higher up says that too many people are complaining and it's hurting the sale of that item, we can't turn it off except at night.
