Semi-related story

My English 4 teacher gave her classes an assignment to write about their feelings on the African hunger crisis. Nearly the whole class wrote about how they were saddened by it and how they wished to change it, while I wrote about how I felt nothing due to being in no way effected by the issues of another continent.

Bitch gave me a 0.

While you lack empathy and are probably a piece of **** person for not caring about other people's troubles, you shouldn't have received a 0 for being a ****** human being since you satisfied the assignment's requirements.

I'll just quote my response to another person calling me an asshole...

"I have an underdeveloped anterior insular cortex due to an over-sized temporal lobe.
The former is responsible for empathy and the latter for retention."

I'm not just an asshole, I'm a clinical asshole.

I'm not trying to be hostile, but I would like to know why I should care about a continent of people that have no relation to me or who are likely to impact me in no way?

Again, it's an honest question.

If you are unable to comprehend empathy then it'd be kind of hard to explain it to you, but I'll try. The definition of "empathy" is: the feeling that you understand and share another person's experiences and emotions : the ability to share someone else's feelings. If you understand their hardships, then you would want to improve their lot in life, at least if you aren't a sociopath or something.

I remember hearing that if the USA did not send however many tons of food each year to African countries that the continent would have a mass starvation. Crazy **** that.

but still I'm another person that doesn't give a **** about Africa to be honest.

You just subjected me to some of the worst circle jerking ******** threads that I've ever seen on this site. Yes, your story does make sense from a 1 dimensional point of view but haven't you ever thought about the perspective of the teacher. Okay, let's just say that you really are that nihilistic and don't care about anything that doesn't affect you, personally but the teacher doesn't know that and probably thought that you were just trying to get a response out of him which is what it sounded like, to me. Mortuus, thewrsler and anaklusmos tip your fedoras gentlemen you truly are a cut above the rest I'm sure you wear your neckbeards proudly. As far as dinosauraids is concerned, maybe your teacher just wanted to encourage you to do better and you just called her out in front of everyone, she extended an olive branch and you pissed on it and then you act like you don't understand, which is why I have to the conclusion that you're just plain dumb.

It was an AP class, so I was expected to be less than two-thirds retarded.

The teacher was not known for her ... caring attitude towards her students or the lessons for which she was employed to teach.

I did try to see the best side of her, but she was just not a good teacher.

My friend had to write a paper on his opinion about the same thing but he said that what's happening in Africa is bad and all but I would prefer to first address issues in our own country. The teacher gave him a 0 and called him a racist for the rest of the year.

I don't get why they ask for your opinion and then tell you that your opinion is wrong and fail you for it...

some sour leftist bitch teacher of mine did some sort of ''bohoo the african children are starving to death'' powerpoint in my friends class when his fat classmate began to laugh his ass of at these starving children. i too laughed my ass of when i heard of it.

she did some similar powerpoint to our class with the holocast theme this time so we would feel sad and guilty about all these dead jews when my skinhead classmate said that it would be hilarius if she would play the benny hills theme song instead.

that was truly hilarius

You didn't deserve a zero but you're still an example of everything wrong with the people in this world.

I mean I don't care that people are dying either, because they just don't have the resources to support the population yet keep *******, but I really hate "because another continent". Empathy is a large part of what makes us human, and lack of empathy is what makes our world cold and foreboding.

Other than the price of diamonds, oil, and some textiles, starving children in Africa have little impact on my day-to-day life. Many countries on the continent are stuck in the past, unable to maintain a semi-peaceful state. While this is certainly not the case for all African countries, the constantly violent countries are the ones that lack food. These same countries produce very little to the world other than supposedly emotional news stories. I feel that these countries deserve little and that they should be left to fix their own internal issues - something that humans are quite able to do, given time.

While you could make an argument that the people of these nations are unable to establish a life for themselves without resorting to violence, that would be the subject of a completely different comment.

I had a teacher in high school who was a liberal feminazi. She made us write a paper about the death toll of Iraqi civilians. Most of the class wrote about how terrible it is that US soldiers were killing so many. I wrote mine about how the insurgents were just as guilty, and that not all of the civilians counted were civilians. I had credible sources cited, and put a lot of thought and effort into it. I got an F. Some dumb bitch wrote a paper that was essentially "HURR DURR American soldiers are only bad guys cuz they kill innocent people and killing innocent people is bad so american soldiers are bad" which earned her an A-

How about this one: Had old ******* teacher. Friend of mines Uncle had had her as teacher in his days. Write text about drinking/party pressure and how it affect teenagers at the time we were 14, so I wrote about our age obviously . Teacher compliments me and says it's the best I've ever written. Reads it out loud in front of the class. Get a 3- , on a scale from 1 to 6, with 6 being best 1 being Fail.

This wasn't as bad as your experience but similar. I once had a health teacher who I called The Dragon. She was awful. Now one day while we were going over suicide prevention and ******** like that (I think we had just gone over anorexia) we were asked as a warm up question (these count for a lot in this class mind you) "what would you do if your friend told you he was going to commit suicide?". Me believing that this was a question with no right answer, basically an opinion question said "meh, good luck with that" because I didn't feel like writing. Apparently that wasn't an acceptable answer.

TLR teachers who grade students based on their opinions are ****

No ****? Although I believe from a nihilistic perspective that the most logical thing to do in the universe is to kill yourself, if I were a teacher I'd give you a **** grade for that as well. What the **** did you expect? Do you have the moral compass of a lamp post or something? What teacher wouldn't think that you're a ******* idiot? You deserved whatever **** you got for that for the simple fact that you did not complete the task. You gave a ****** and short response with no depth showing you're apathetic towards the class and it's topics. You seem to lack common sense.

Well when you put it like that, you're absolutely right. Since you have no way of knowing more of the story I'll accept that I sound stupid based on the amount of info I put out. That being said, this was a teacher who literally complained about your paper (and lowered your grade) if you wrote too much because she didn't feel like reading. Nobody gave in depth answers in this class, mine just didn't happen to be the platitude that everybody else gave. I did complete the task, they asked what I would do given a hypothetical situation and I told them. Also I didn't write "meh, good luck with that" word for word. I think I wrote two sentences that amounted to about that.

Look, I'm cool with getting thumbed down because I sounded like a friendzone fedora. Because in retrospect, I did genuinely sound like one. But I really meant it when I said I liked her depiction of herself. It was funny and more original than what female artists usually do. And as difficult as it may be to believe, I am not trying to get in her pants.

Sam Kinison World Hunger
I think this video is the perfect solution to world hunger.
"If you want to stop world hunger, stop sending them food. Don't send these people another bit folks. You want to send them something, you want to help? Send them U-hauls. Send them U-hauls, some luggage, and send them a guy that goes Hey, we've been driving out here every day with your food for the last thirty or forty years, and we were driving out here, through the desert and it occurred to us that there wouldn't be world hunger if you people lived where the food is! You live in a ******* desert! Nothing grows out here! Nothings gonna grow out here! Come here you see this huh? This is sand. You know what it's going to be in another hundred years from now? It's gonna be sand!" "Get your kids, get your ****... We'll take you to where the food is! We have deserts in America, we just don't live in them ass hole!"

The problems with this approach are the following:

- Do these people want to emigrate?
- Who will pay for the mass emigration?
- Who will keep them?
- Where are enough jobs for all these people to afford the food available for sale?
- And who will pay for the people who can't get a job?
Keep in mind there are a billion people worldwide who are dying of starvation. Let that number roll around in your head for a second before you say something like "Well, come here then, here's enough food for y'all, instead of your desert!"

Most people dying from starvation do not have physical access to food, that isn't the problem. Their problem is that they can't afford it. In the developed world, we are all educated enough and have enough governmental protection that we get very high wages, allowing us to buy ourselves plenty of food. And we do, all obesity cases considered. We also eat all kinds of food, like meat, which take a lot more effort and/or food to create, accelerating the process.

Furthermore, That "sand will always be sand" statement simply isn't true. Desert can be terraformed into dry plains, which can be terraformed into farmland. This is a proven concept, it just requires effort (not a lot of money, you just need trees) from a lot of people, and nobody ain't terrraforming **** until they can be guaranteed a return on investment. Considering most people who will benefit from this action cannot afford the upfront investment to carry it to completion. This is where charity should come in. We should really follow the lesson taught by "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime." We need to educate them and improve their environment for them to become self-sufficient. Sadly, most people keep treating the symptoms of poverty and disease rather than curing the dictatorships/broken financial system and desertification/climate change/garbage poisoning ruining those lands ever since the 19th century.

Wow, rant much?

>goverment protection

allowing labour unions, welfare, market regulations preventing monopolies/unfair wages

>increased wages

higher education leads to smaller group of people, who can demand higher wages according to supply and demand. Be fair, do you really think the average inhabitant of the developed world does not have an increased wage compared to the average inhabitant of the developing world?

Bad execution does not mean the concept is incorrect. Look at the north-western European countries for an example. The US isn't good at execution, because lobbyists keep twisting laws to satisfy their own need at the cost of the people's. This effect is amplified in developing countries. You want a free market? Travel to Ethiopia, and see how fair/just the free market really is.

The idea of a "free" market on its own is of course very good, but it is very hard to execute, because almost all people who acquire a position of power, make sure to adjust the system so they keep in power. This is very difficult to stop, unless you adopt a regulated market, in which the ideals are preserved as best as possible, whilst abuse of power is prevented as best as possible. For some reason, this has not happened in the US.

Once again, if you want an example of the turnout of a completely free market, look at the industrial society: no chance for education to get out by yourself, a perpetual loop of work from the poor for the rich, and the government was the only way out for so many people. Yes, a few managed to grow to the top. But those are the exceptions to prove the rule. And tell me, was that society really what you desire? If so, China still has that system completely operational.

Dog food cost more here in a developed country than basic food in a third world.

Yeah, enjoy it. I'm dead serious, you're lucky to have been born in a place where you can afford being lazy like that, so you better enjoy it right? Would be a waste if you didn't.

Actually with under a 1 in 7 chance of being born there, to be born there is actually just unlucky, and mundane to be born where you can just get up and get a glass of water.

Animals drink water too.....not just any animal like a deer or squirrel that we have...they have ******* lions and hippos that would **** you up. Also they build an entire village and then their water source dries up, making them search other places for it, and walking the mileage is easier than rebuilding an entire village that took two generations of hard work to create. Also, they have spiritual feelings towards where they live, which furthermore wants them to be stationary.
