I don't get the Hypocrisy here. Japanese films are normally scarier than their american counterparts because of the japanese laws and culture. In america you are allowed to show gore and gore is seen as horror so most american directors lean toward that as a horror technique.
In Japan you aren't allowed to show that much gore and gore isn't in their history or culture. This means the directors and writers have to create horror in a different form, this means they have to be clever. American horror movies are based on jump scares which ware off. while in Japan the fear lingers for a long time, which in my opinion makes them scarier.

Yay studying the differences in horror across cultures pays off for once!

If you think you can mistaken Japanese movie for anything else, you haven't watched a Japanese movie.
If you're implying that people think that the American version of the Japanese movie is scary because it's based on a Japanese movie, you are even more stupid.
