I never understood how our brain could ignore our nose and be able to see all the stuff around and underneath it.

Well, you're not really seeing it. Just like how your vision is actually a lot narrower than it appears and your ability to see colour cuts off at some point too, but your brain sort of makes it up.

I once cut my forehead on a raft while I was swimming   
   
I didn't even feel it but my brain registered that my nose was suddenly all red and it appeared in my vision again.
