This is a constant fight I'm having with my family at the moment.
Whenever we have a fight and I want one thing and they want the other. They use the " Well then why don't you just move out! " card.

Now that I am actually moving out and I have informed them its happening in December they get mad and use the " YOU CANT. I WONT LET YOU. YOU'RE TOO IRRESPONSIBLE "

its very contradicting and aggravating.
its not even their choice but oh well this comic is just a stress reliever.
anyone else had the same problem with their folks?

ey also I finally managed to redo my patreon and its up and running!
So if you're interested go check it out maybe?

I understand the frustration, but this looks more like a "We're pissed off you're not listening" which later becomes "You're our baby, don't leave, it's a bad world out there." I don't know the details of your fight, but I hope you guys patch up.
On another note, I got a story. When I was 19, I decided to go into the business career. I wasn't too picky about which type of major I wanted to be, but I was sure it had to be that field. Because I wasn't too picky, my parents thought I was just b-sing the path and told me they weren't paying for it. I told them they didn't need to pay for it, I'll be taking the gen ed classes and paying on my own because they're cheap enough and they already invested too much on my lazy older brother. (Side note: My older brother took up teaching, flunked out, went back for cosmetology, set some girl's hair on fire, flunked out, and has taken the job of couch potato waiting for McDonald's to pick him up for their next batch of fries. And, he's the accomplished one in my parents' eyes cause he married and has a kid.) They told me to leave if I was so much of an adult to handle myself. I left.
At that time, I was working at a Dunkin' Donuts. I had enough savings to get a studio apartment, enough to get necessary living essentials, and enough for the classes I was going to be taking. I didn't think about bills at the time because the apartment had only electricity and water, I had no idea how much it would've been since I was used to water, electric, and gas. So, I took another job waiting tables at a new restaurant. BTW, rich people should learn to tip. I'd get weekly voicemails from my parents harassing me about what a crappy child I was, how ungrateful I was, so on and so on.
Three months into that lifestyle, I was set to be in a group project with a couple of other people. Two became friends and one was this cutie pie exchange student from China, let's call her Jasmine cause that's what it meant. We hit it off pretty well, despite a slight language barrier, and were dating once the project ended. Not only was Jasmine cute, she was understanding about my living style. I literally only had a bed and my clothes. I tried to make time for her outside of work hours, but she'd pop into my workplace every once in a while and hang out. Her actual words I loved "Time is money, but money can't buy time." She would make me food everyday cause she was worried about my nutrition. She fussed over a cold I had and got me this giant bottle of NyQuil. After the semester was over, I asked her to stay with me cause she was living alone in a 450 monthly apartment. She said no because she doesn't believe in fast relationships, but she moved in after the second semester. At that point, I had enough money to be considered "Free to not beg parents for help." Jasmine paid for food, I paid for rent, I was able to work less hours, we even had enough to go out for a treat sometimes. What was once just a white room with a single bed became colorful with Chinese items, some drawers, a table with chairs, and a freaking bowl of fruit. (There's an important reason why I'm focusing so much on her.) Life was good.
Until my parents showed up during my work hours. Know that a year and a half passed and they've stopped calling me. They wanted to try the place and didn't even recognize me. I was glad and tried to avoid them, until the manager told me to get them wine. I filled the glasses, but asked someone else to bring it to them with an excuse that my tables needed water. That's when my mom looked up and noticed me. Apparently, they expected me to come crying back to them cause I'd screw up something. I also looked pretty clean for a bum, they didn't recognize me because of my new haircut. They couldn't believe I had a girlfriend and she was the one that cut my hair. They honestly thought I had taken up drugs and was lying dead in a river somewhere.

Sorry for the long time difference, had to take a break while walking down memory lane.
Continued...
They asked how I was doing. I replied that I needed to work cause I'm paid to wait tables, not stand around talking. Didn't stay to see their reaction, went to work my tables, ignored them the whole night. They made an attempt to get me to work on their table because "I'm their son," but I declined because I didn't need their tip money when I said I'll pay for my own college. My manager knew the situation, too, but he asked me to since he was a father and felt like I had to patch things up with them. A year and a half was a long time. Still, the things they said when we met again was barely inviting enough.
They asked why I was working here, where I lived, was I studying what I wanted, how long have I known Jasmine, what does she do in life, all the questions that would've been answered if they weren't constantly filling my voice mail with harassment the first two semesters of my education. Because they were bombarding me with questions, I had to split my work time with another waitress and share half the tips that night. She took more than half and lied about it. When work was over, my parents were waiting outside to give me a lift. I'm not falling for this, declined, and walked to the bus stop. They're parked right there to make sure I get home safely. Gave up, they were going to follow the fricking bus and be considered stalkers. Accepted the ride home. Gave them location of a dorm buddy, say I've been living at an off-campus dorm. Go in, play pool with dorm buddy for an hour or two, go home for real. A few days later, dorm buddy says a couple went up to him, demanding to see me. Asked if I knew them, gave description of parents. Said I did, but I don't want them near me. He says they looked desperate and really looked like they needed to talk to me. They had my phone number and know I'm alive, they may as well call me.
Sure enough, the day after, they called me. My older brother got a job at some place he wouldn't name and stole all their furniture to live with his wife and kid at some undisclosed location. They ask to live in the dorm place until they settle down. No. Hung up, ignored them, finished homework, went to work. Guess who were outside? My parents. Ignored them all night, took the subway this time, went home. Rinse and repeat for 5 nights. On the fifth night, they followed me down the subway, so I got a taxi and told him to avoid the car following us.
Jasmine's been noticing I haven't been feeling too good lately and I kept coming home with a "weird atmosphere" around me. I had to explain the situation and she said she wanted to meet them. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Bad feelings all around. I lost the argument cause she withdrew food from me and that thing's Chinese ambrosia...
Called up parents and told them to meet for dinner at "my girlfriend's place" which was really our place. Jasmine was really nervous, even though she was the one that proposed the idea. They came and it was the most awkward 15 seconds of our lives. What's the first damn thing out of their mouths once they heard her speak?
"Her English is horrible for an exchange student. Are you sure she's not dating you, so you'll marry her, for citizenship?"
God. ******* . Damn. Called off the whole dinner, locked them out of our apartment, ate amazing dinner, consoled her the whole night once her shock wore off.
Fast forward another year and a half, I got my associate's and just recently finished my bachelor's. Went into financing, going for master's degree. Switched from waiting restaurants to interning at a small firm, making a pretty decent salary compared to waitering. Jasmine also finished her bachelor's, but she was double majoring and working on her second bachelor's. We're engaged, but no ring yet. Was going to surprise her on her birthday. Live like this for another year, we're thinking kids and a house.
Part 3 coming... Stupid word count.
#141 to #126 - SONUVABEACH (10/01/2015) [-]
Continued...
Life is most definitely good right about now. Switched apartments cause my older brother found out where we were living, somehow. Wanted to bum off us, so we left the apartment to him without the furniture. Jasmine's English is improving really well, so she helps with looking for a house through newspapers and the internet. Holy crap, the prices... Spend time to really just look at ads, make no attempt to buy any. Get to her birthday, popped the ring, squeals of giggles. It was a simple gold band, but she was happy with getting it all the same. I know it's inverted, but I was going to get a diamond one for the wedding ring. Start talking about married life and having 4 kids with a garden for herbs and vegetables. Finally talk about wedding day, she wants my parents there.
What? Did she forget what happened when we last met?
She thinks they were just shocked over her being a foreign exchange student, so they unconsciously blurted out the first thing they thought. When she gave it some thought, she felt like some immigrants actually do marry for citizenship, so it was understandable. She's so sweet, I almost had a toothache. She wants another dinner with them. Now that we're officially engaged, we have to tell my parents. Stomachache. Her parents are flying over to watch the wedding, it'd be difficult to explain to them why my parents weren't there. (Her parents are another story. There's a reason why there was no ring and I literally had to wait a whole year before giving it to her. Guys, if you meet a nice Chinese girl with traditional families, be prepared for a long wait of acceptance.)
Relent, call from a payphone because I didn't want them knowing my new number.
"Please, come home."
Swallow laugh.
"Your older brother came back, but he left again."
"What did he do this time?"
"He divorced, but they're back together. So, he stayed with us in the meantime."
"I can't live with you guys, I'm getting married soon. Just called to tell you that."
... "With that Asian woman?"
... "Yeah, 'that Asian woman' is named Jasmine."
... "She can live with us, too."
Okay, this was getting weird. "No need, she's inviting you to dinner again. We're going to a restaurant this time. So, please behave yourselves."
Hang up.
Go to restaurant, had to dress nicely on Jasmine's insistence. Meet up outside restaurant, tight lipped smiles all around. Go through half of the dinner without problems, they're actually very nice and polite. Something felt off. Jasmine's happy, she really believes them, don't say anything. Asks how's my job at interning firm I'm now employed at.
What? I never told them where I worked. What the f is going on?
Suddenly, everything clicks.
Nope. Make up ******** story of how I'm tired and haven't been feeling well. Guilt trip cause now Jasmine looks worried, but I want to leave and get away from my parents as soon as possible. Pay for our half of the meal, Jasmine stops me, whispers that they look like they haven't had a good night's sleep or a good meal in a while, wants me to pay in full. Curse the fact that they really haven't seen how nice of a girl she really is, pay in full, leave. Hear her say she wants to see them at the wedding and hands them the invites.
(Sorry about the sudden rush, word count's almost up)
Fast forward day of wedding, parents show up with dead beat brother. Other family members there, but they were invited by me. Finally meet her parents in person, they're not bad. Who ***** up the wedding? My older brother. IDK exactly what he said in the pews, but her father stood up to stop the wedding. Later find out he told the father how he ****** her and how she's marrying the wrong man, which was a damn lie because Jasmine was nowhere near him.
Why did he do that? This was the only way for them to get me to move in with them. Explaining to her parents didn't help, either, because we were a "bad family" if we acted that way. I was officially ****** . Still didn't move in with them.
#148 to #141 - SONUVABEACH (10/01/2015) [-]
Ending...
Jasmine was almost taken back to China with them, she wanted to stay to finish her degree. We secretly went back to dating. There was no way I was giving her up. I asked her why she was willing to put up with all that crap from my family and a bad wedding day.
My little China girl says
Oh baby, just you shut your mouth
She says, shhh

Just kidding, real ending...
She wanted to stay to finish her degree, but she was forced to switch universities. Which also meant she lived away from me. I changed my name and moved again. Got new girlfriends, but can't keep them for long cause I keep comparing them to Jasmine with questions like...
"Does she like me for me?"
"If I had no time for her, would she just make time to spend with me?"
"How would she react if I had an an empty room with just a bed?"
"Would she be sickeningly sweet you want to kiss her for being stupid?"
I ****** up, FunnyJunk. I shouldn't have brought them to the wedding.
So, yeah... Parental frustration can **** you up pretty badly. Talk to them. If your parents are the type you can forgive, forgive them and move on. If they're not, cut all connections and move on. In the end, you'll always be wishing for something different, anyway.

**** man, **** your brother and your parents. You deserve better than what life's given to you.
If you want to talk to more people about your situation, there's this interesting support group on reddit called /r/raisedbynarcissists. Your parents may not be narcissists, but it's still a good place to vent and learn how to deal with difficult parents in general, whether it be dealing with them directly or going full no contact.
There's not much that we can say that can make you feel better, but I hope nothing but the best for you. I'm sure it's hard to swallow, but you'll probably never find another Jasmine. The best thing for you to do in that regard is to learn to let go and move on, and appreciate new girlfriends for who they are, not who they aren't.
Sorry, this is probably a little long-winded. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I hope life only gets better for you from here on out.

That's the awesome thing about romantic languages. They're all beautiful in their own unique way, but in the end a Spaniard can have a beer with an Italian like they've known each other forever.
User avatar #388 to #385 - talpss (10/01/2015) [-]
Yep, I'm actually going to try learning all of the Romance languages (maybe Romanian too) when I finish Latin. It'll be insanely easy at that point, since all I have to do is loosen the rules of Latin.
User avatar #392 to #388 - victhree (10/01/2015) [-]
I'll still take a lot of effort, but Latin is the best base to learn them all. Or at least the hardest of them.
User avatar #393 to #392 - talpss (10/01/2015) [-]
Nah, it's pretty easy. There's lots of patterns and they're easy to pick up on if you're keen and interested in it.
User avatar #400 to #393 - victhree (10/01/2015) [-]
Well, my friends studying Latin say remembering all the variations of nouns and verbs is a nightmare. I'll be a good practice for learning the tenses of Spanish, though.
User avatar #402 to #400 - talpss (10/01/2015) [-]
Eh, I can decline all the way up to 3rd declension and I can conjugate all 4 forms of verbs up to present, imperfect, and future tense.
User avatar #408 to #402 - victhree (10/01/2015) [-]
Nice. The only truly painful thing about Spanish is grammar, but it's worth it because you can twist a sentence anyway you want and still make sense out of it. Makes for some neat poetry.
User avatar #411 to #408 - talpss (10/01/2015) [-]
Same with Latin. The word order is so loose that it really only matters with adjectives, prepositions, and clauses. Other than that, there's not a whole lot else that dictates where words have to go.

this month electricity, gas, water and car insurance for a car that isn't mine. shes got a bmw beamer...im not paying for that **** .
Well wont be an issue soon. If I had taken one more honors class I could've graduated early and with a core 40+ which was supposed to be better than just graduating regularly but I actually couldn't because I couldn't take any other honors classes because I was never actually the top in all of my classes, just above average usually.

Remember friend. You've got 2 kinds of people, those who get stronger from bad situations, and those who crumble under the pressure.

The most genuine and most likable people are people who've been through alot, as they've learned how to handle themselves. Bad situations aren't always bad with the right attitude.

Now I know that last part people cant do, its all luck. but seriously people, the only thing holding you back in live is yourself. you can do anything you set your mind to, I know thats really cliche'd but its true. your parents aren't going to be around forever to take care of you,

to the people that say "I cant move out or get job because i dont have skills or this reason or that reason." yes. yes you cant. go flip burgers if you have to. but get skills! they are on the internet for you. learn how to do something that is usefull, like wood working, or painting, or fixing cars, or 3d modeling, or just being a good typer. you can learn these things in your spare time. do it! I believe in you! go fly you beautiful dove!

#263 to #234 - anon (10/01/2015) [-]
As much as you admitted that your inheritance tlwas luck based, it still gave you a pretty big ****** boost to your finances.

Kinda puts a damper on your theory of "Its easy, you can do it, you just can't be lazy!"

Much much better advice is to formulate your life around your current finances, as opposed to getting all moody and depressed at the finances you have. Having no money sucks balls, but when you feel the same after having a stable job with moderate pay, that's where you know what the problem is.

I have to keep telling my girlfriend, "You have a full time job at a company which absolutely loves you, with only the possibility for advancement and salary raise, and a budget that actually puts you in the positive at the end of the month. You need to stop stressing over the idea that we're gonna be homeless at the end of each week just because I propose the idea we go to Applebee's every now and then."

Also apparently you're blocking me, which I won't question but will make a note of.
User avatar #269 to #263 - malinko ONLINE (10/01/2015) [-]
I never said it was easy, and alot of it has to do with being in the right place at the right time. and I did not compare my current finances, that part at the end was just the end of the story, before that, everything i had was based on hard work alone, and i did rather well for myself.
I'll admit, a lot of it is, luck, even with finding a job and what not, but living at your parents house and sitting in your room at your computer isn't giving yourself a fighting chance.

Don't do law. The market is way too saturated right now. There are 10 lawyers for every 8 jobs. If you want to do research, go get it. You can do it.

My dad is a lawyer. He'd sign off on my articling and pass me off to our moneylender friend.

The market is saturated with PhD's as well. It's a real awful market that was not prepared for the older generation not dying to make room for us. Maybe business is still viable if you've got good ideas and a stomach for risk.

My wife's parents did this to her.
"We don't like you staying out so late, if you're staying in our house you have to follow ours rules!"
-Moves in with me.
"Wait no-"

So my advice to you: If you an 18+ Adult with the financial funds to move out, or move in with some friends. Do it. Shut them the **** up, learn some responsibility by living the life they claim you're not ready for and mayhaps the next time you're over they'll actually treat you like a person instead of a kid.
#115 - sabanknight (10/01/2015) [-]
I recommend doing what I did 'Hey I am moving out Tuesday, already signed the lease'

My parents pulled that stuff all the time, oh it's expensive to live in an apartment, oh it's a lot of responsibility.

It's a learning experience, succeed or fail don't burn the bridge to come back home. Do a lot of planning and budgeting, layout ground rules and responsibility early with your roomate. You'll do fine.
