Why do so many artists especially female ones draw themselves with some stupid **** like the bunny ears we see right here? Soule has a retarded eye, and that other girl whose name I do not know has a paper hat? Why?

For some (definitely not all) artists, it's to express sexual fantasies or may have something to do with escaping from reality. For example, if an artist enjoys pet play as a cat, she obviously can't walk around 24/7 with cat ears on. However, she can add cat ears to her comic character instead. It's not necessarily to make herself "stand out". She just personally likes seeing herself that way and and uses art to express that side of her. Once again, this applies to some artists, not all.

The entire animal ears thing on the other hand has been beaten to death often enough to supply the rest of humanity with ears for their ****** webcomics.

If you make all your characters look the same it apparently turns people away from wanting to view your content.
Unique features on a character both give it more depth, at times, but also give it an easily recognizable feature so someone can see said character and go "Oh thats- bla bla bla"
Source: I did an art class for a semester and we did a unit on making comics and stuff.
