Another of my many irrational fears.

You can check out the rest of my comic archive at www.legacy-control.com

This is, of course, an actual fear I have. It’s dumb. I know. That said, I don’t actually collect all loose items in my house. I just really really want to.

I sleep with three steak-knives in my headboard, a meat cleaver down the side of the mattress, an Iron re-enforced bokken between the bedside table & bed and light cavalry saber (an heirloom that saw action in chrimea) on top of the wardrobe.
Why?
Because family tradition.

>be 16ish
>series of thefts and break ins on my dirt back country road
>brother drops off a gun one morning, simple 12 gauge with slugs
>he leaves it on the drier by the door
>during the day i'm laying on the couch with just shorts and oreos stacked on my chest
>i hear someone come in and i think it is my brother maybe or someone else
>i sit up and am probably 10 ft away from a mexican guy just staring at me
>he is the right height and has the same look of the guy who has been reported doing the breakins
>i just stand there and we look at each other for about 10 seconds
>he then slowly just leaves without a word or gesture and drives off
>i see the gun and realize that he could have dusted me off if he wanted
>honestly one of the weirder things to happen to me in my life, but i've hidden all my weapons from pistols to large scissors ever since

when I was a kid I was afraid that monsters would come out of my closet and under
my bed. To "stop" these actions I would pretend my finger is a laser and spend
40 minutes "melting" the wood between the door and the wall so they would be
trapped in the closet. I would do this every day.
just thought it was pretty irrational

STORYTIME
>be me in my first apartment
>don't even need a roommate. rent is cheap as ****
>get a message on my door one morning. It says the complex has gotten allot of break-ins lately. watch your ****
>probably some worlds-dumbest-criminals ****** living in the same complex
>stay up super late like I always do, playing games with friends over Skype
>friends go to bed but I decide to stay up for no reason in particular. neckbeard stuff.
>about 2:30am and i'm feeling sleepy
> **** it, I'm watching a movie
>have my computer positioned so that my back is to the apartment door
>around 3am I hear a noise from behind me despite my blasting headphones
>turn around to see front door open just a few inches
>I know for a FACT that I locked it. I always ******* lock it.
>nopenopenopenopenope
>man up and grab a leftover piece of steel bed-frame
>quickly rush into the hall and look over the 3rd floor balcony
>hear a door close from below me
>pic related. mfw the dumbass thought he could hide just because he's 2 floors below me
>start to ponder over how long a person can go without sleep. I'm not letting my **** get taken. I have a very special set of skills
>next morning tell the fatass at the main building what happened
>pretends to give a **** . clearly, none were given. says she'll tell the boss. doubt she ever did
>the ****** probably opened my door not expecting to see a person still awake at 3am. my $500 plasma tv could have been missing if I'd have gone to bed.
>I ended my lease early. not worth-it. got the **** out of there.

TL;DR, always get a roomate. Don't buy cheap when it comes to your dwelling.

Since you have a fear like this, let me remind you:
1. Anyone breaking in with murderous intent will likely have their own weapon to do so.
2. Even if they don't humans can be killed fairly easy with barehanded combat
3. Despite 1 & 2, the odds of you dying like that are still quite low. People that just want to kill will chose either targets, serial killers are rare and you'd have to be their type which is why they are serial killers, and most burglars don't kill even if interrupted as killing isn't something easy to do for the vast majority of people, so relax mate, learn some self defense, get a weapon your comfortable with and learn to use it. You'll be safe, and you'll sleep better at night
