A different black person had attempted to cash a counterfeit cheque of $24,000 while the rapper was in the bank. The police detained Blac Youngsta because he was similar to the description given to police but he was released shortly after.

the reason the police were called is because it is impossible to withdraw 200k from a bank, it has to be digital, and even then, notice has to be given. banks don't carry much more than 200k cash

The problem with what you are saying is that he was arrested after the withdrawal.
#31 to #21 - antexic (01/11/2016) [-]
Except the article clearly says he was not arrested. He was detained, due to the fact that the police believed he was robbing the bank based upon the 911 call they received.

As someone who was just fired from a bank, withdrawing 200,000 does require a notice before hand. However, we would not call the police because someone withdrew that money. Hell, that's what banks are for. What we would do however is fill out a CTR (Customer Transaction Record) which basically makes a money trail. Calling the cops on someone for withdrawing large amounts is both unheard of and suspicious.
User avatar #3 to #2 - deadlyfoez (01/10/2016) [-]
The dude not knowing about that is certainly not a reason to call the police unless he was creating a disturbance. But if he was creating a disturbance then they would have charged him with a crime.

banks flag large withdraws like that as suspicious activity partly because there's a chance the person will use it illegally, and partly because the red tape usually gives them a day or two longer with the money (since it being in their hands is making them money). it doesn't really matter what color your skin is, everyone has to go through the red tape, specially if it's very large a bank may require a few day waiting period so they can transfer more funds to that branch to accommodate the withdraw.

Except this is not correct at all. He did withdraw 200K. He was arrested AFTER withdrawing the money. The reason he was arrested was because they confused him with a serial check forger who they somehow knew would be at that bank on that day (he was arrested several hours after the rapper was released.

withdraws over $20,000 require legal paperwork and documentation prior to withdraw, it can take a day or so. i gander this guy wanted to bypass that and thats why they accused him of robbing, possibly.
User avatar #6 to #5 - rangerofthesea (01/10/2016) [-]
"oh let me just put all my hard earned money into this establishment for safekeeping and i cant have ready access to it without a mountain of paperwork."

thats retarded and you know it
User avatar #7 to #6 - Tusura (01/10/2016) [-]
Retarded? possibly.

It's still the law though.

I can't pull out more than $2000 a day at my credit union without 5 business days notice.

Banks typically do not have a substantially large sum of money at the establishment.
This cuts down on losses in case there is a robbery, as well as possible fraud attempts.
Just imagine if every person that banks there, happened to come in and request the entire amount of their account in cash. A bank needs to be able to give out cash to everyone, not get their entire vault swept by one person with a lot of money, and thus have nothing left to give random people that come in.

You can however, get a Cashiers check or Travelers check for whatever amount of money you have in your account. It's verified, and "withdrawn" from your account. That money is then in limbo until the check is either re-deposited, or authorized at a different bank.

The amount you can withdraw per day varies from bank to bank, but there is a limit.
The only legal ways around the limit, are prior notice, so they can amass the extra funds, or to close your account completely, which typically has a negative effect on your credit score.

Credit Unions are not banks. My CU would give me a check for withdraws and told me to go to the bank across the street to cash it. When I took the check to the bank, the teller asked if I ever considered opening an account at that bank.
BTW we're talking less than $100.
User avatar #22 to #14 - Tusura (01/11/2016) [-]
A credit union is a bank that is federally insured, among a few other things.

It's still a banking institution.
User avatar #8 to #7 - rangerofthesea (01/10/2016) [-]
which is retarded.
User avatar #9 to #8 - Tusura (01/10/2016) [-]
Money gets moved around. Banks invest, give out loans, run stocks, etc.

It's about being able to accommodate the masses. Not one individual who happens to be rich. It's also about cutting possible losses to a minimum.
A bank is still a business. Businesses care about their bottom line, and not much else; regardless of what they say to the public.
User avatar #10 to #9 - rangerofthesea (01/10/2016) [-]
banks invest my money and give out loans of my money...a bank is a fickle thing since its primarily just taking the money being interred to them and reinvesting for a capital profit from interest...banks used to be a decent thing to have its just getting ****** nowadays.
User avatar #11 to #10 - Tusura (01/10/2016) [-]
That's why banks give you interest on the money you have stored with them.

If you really don't like banks that much, go bank with Gamestop.

Withdrawing any amount of cash over $2k requires a security guard, the bank manager, and a form to be signed by the bank customer along with multiple forms of ID. It's the law

You know why?

Because if I just had your bank account number I could take absolutely everything in your account should I choose to. However, if I don't have your address, Social, and don't go through the process, I can't do that
#30 to #5 - malexandercalamity (01/11/2016) [-]
But they let him bypass it.

And then told the popo about it.

User avatar #32 - askafj (01/11/2016) [-]
I mean, 200k is a lot of money. Not too weird that the bank manager got worried.

He could've just asked the employee that withdrew the money, though.

"I want to withdraw 200k"

"We cant do that much sir"

"Bitch, give me 200 ******* k"

angry customer mistaken for bank robber?
#33 to #23 - anon (01/11/2016) [-]
If I have the 200k in my account, I fully ******* expect the get my ******* money if I ask for it. So would you. How the **** would you react if you needed a sum of your own money, which you worked for, which was faxed, and the bank said "lolno!"?

"Hmm well I guess there go my plans, ho hum..."
#37 to #33 - kez (01/12/2016) [-]
If I owned a clothing store brand I wouldnt go to a store and expect to be able to take away all 200,000 pairs of socks without notice.

Same concept.
