The indoctrination theory makes perfect sense....

If the Bioware forums are any indication of what the public thinks about the Indoctrination Theory, you just potentially set in motion a shitstorm the likes of which this site has never seen. I'm totally on board with it though so thumb for you.

The public is rejecting the theory? I understand why they're upset over the endings not being even close to as diverse as they could, but the indoctrination theory makes for one one hell of an ending. I haven't seen any holes in the theory, and it fits perfectly within the context of the Mass Effect Universe.

A plethora of threads on the Bioware forums were created. A large amount of the community is mocking the believers of the IT by simply saying Bioware created a bad ending and that we are over analyzing the ending, which I think is complete bullshit. I wholeheartedly agree with the Indoctrination Theory, not just because it has so many points that fit together too perfectly for it to just be a coincidence, but because it treats the Mass Effect series as what it should be recognized as: literature. In the same way people have interpreted Shakespeare's words to mean more than meets the eye, we too have found more than what we were explicitly told. The series is a story, the same as any other, just told through a different medium. I am not willing to believe that Bioware's incredible storytelling and literary mastery that they displayed in the series up until this point would result in the ending they gave us. I have cried at the death of Anderson, felt feelings for Tali I have never experienced before, and seen perspectives on life shown by Legion that had never crossed my mind. This is game has proved to be so much more than I could have anticipated and for it to have ended the way it did is completely out of the realm of possibility. If it does turn out to be true (and I really hope it does), then Bioware has told the greatest story in history.

While agreeing with the indoctrination theory, I must say that they explicitly stated they had no intention of changing the ending. These men and women at Bioware are the most absolutely brilliant people, and I know they are probably saying that to make it a surprise, that ending wasn't all they had and we all know it. Whether they are making a new DLC or one more (or numerous more) Mass Effect games, we know not, but I'm sure they are brewing something up.

I honestly believe with all my heart that Mass Effect is the single most powerful piece of literary work I have ever experienced. Better then Dante's Inferno, Candide, Shakespeare, it's the most beautiful, personal, well written piece of work ever. I cried when Anderson died, I cried even at my shitty ending (synthesis), I cried at Tali looking over her home world, at Legion's memories... that all they've ever wanted was for their parents to love them. This game should be played in literary classes as mandatory requirements some day... I have never read or seen anything that was so emotional and moving. I fell in love with Tali, a video game character for Christ's sake. Again, this is a true masterpiece worthy of more praise than any piece of literature or film ever created. And I hope to God it's the introduction to a new, personalized era of gaming, centered around beautiful stories rather than "OH LAWL I SHOT HIM IN THE BALLZZZZ."
