The leopard was killing a bunch of the local people's goats and a young girl had gone missing (probably killed by the leopard) so the locals called in a semi-professional hunter to deal with the leopard.

Leopards and cheetahs look completely different. Leopards are much larger more heavily built. I didn't have to read up about that.

Animals and humans will get into disputes all the time, and it isn't always the humans fault. For example, there are wolves where I live now. 10 years ago people would laugh at you if you told them you saw a wolf here. People didn't move into their habitat, they moved into ours, and now they are eating out of our garbage cans.
As both a humanist and a nature lover I have to say that I generally favor the humans, but the the very existence has put nature out of balance, and now we have to compromise.

I have a government issued proof, to get that you need to take several exams to prove I have a good understanding of the biological balance of nature. Humans fucked with nature a long time ago, and now it's our responsibility to help preserve the balance. But even if we fail that is part of nature. Species die every single day, and they have done for billions of years. It doesn't matter in the end. If a population of lizards clamber on to a piece of driftwood and are washed out to an island where they kill all the native lizards it doesn't matter. It's part of the way nature works in the long run. Even if humans went balls out insane and nuked the whole globe into a sea of radioactive dust, the surviving species would find a new balance, and new species would rise out of the dust and evolve.

I'm not using that argument to justify destroying the current state of nature planet, but this process will simply continue until the sun starts dying, and scorches the earth into a sterile hot rock.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of animals on this planet, that if they had both the means and the method, would completely exterminate entire populations of humans with little to no thought. There was a case in Africa fairly recently were lions were dragging villagers off into the night, as it was less work than hunting their regular prey - which was in abundance. Now, understand I love all things animal - my dream job is actually to work in biology, but don't think for a second that these animals don't hunt and kill exactly like humans hunt and kill. We're just the best at hunting and killing.
