My great grandfather was a German commander near the end of the war... He was quite literally the last stand between the Allies and Berlin. His unit shot down more than 100 bombers. Feels good knowing that he defended thousands of innocent people.
Yes, because people who were starving, who simply were racist (in a time when everybody was racist) are terrible people. Most of the Germans didn't actually know what happened in the camps. If they did know, then so would the Jews, Gypsies, and gays, and the government couldn't trick them into going to the camps. Most of the Germans just worked the factories and fought in battles.
no thats bullshit, while you are right many of them were not "nazi's" almost every single on of them supported Hitler when he first came to power and during the start of the war. the entire time Hitler was winning the war in Europe he was a fucking hero to the german people, go look up videos of his rallies during the 1930's and early 1940's, the places are packed with thousands of people who all completely supported the nazi ideology. it does not make them innocent when, after they start losing, they tell everyone that they were against it from the beginning when they weren't

The Nazi regime practically held a gun to your head and said, "Heil Furher Hitler, or be shot." You didn't have a choice, dip-shit. It was a hell hole there. The people had it terrible, money was nothing because of the government.
Ever seen this picture? Those are INNOCENT children, not Nazi children building with blocks. No, not blocks, German Marks. Their currency was so shitty, it was cheaper to have the children play with the money rather than to purchase toys for them.
Please, before you start deciding to type something, make sure you know at least something about the subject, alright?
Just because you say the correct words, (i.e. "Europe", "Nazi", "Hitler") doesn't mean you know a single thing about what actually happened. Crack open a text book, or for at least Google something. You seem to be good and typing in worthless nonsense. Type "Who was Hitler." You'll find out what truly happened.
tl;dr Fuck you, Get out.

I would too, if I was a german in that time period. During the great depression, the German mark was worth 0.000001 Canadian dollars or something like that, and when Hitler took over, they were one of the richest planets on the country at the time. Of course they saw him as a hero. People in Germany, after WWI, and before the rise of hitler, were literally eating the leather off their shoes in order to stay alive.
The bullshit is strong with this one... You're using the US point of view, which is completely wrong. If all the Germans supported the Nazi party, then why were thousands of people protesting it? (They disappeared shortly after). Why were Hitler's most trusted acquaintances trying to kill him? Why were the German public trying to smuggle people out of concentration camps? Darp.
learn your fucking history, yes all of this happened, AFTER they started to lose the war, his generals saw that Hitler was losing it and they no longer believed they could win, that was when they tried to assasinate him, same with most of the people protesting, all happened after germany began to lose the war, the gestapo cracked down on ordinary citizens and there began to be food shortages, at the beginning of the war the vast vast majority of german citizens supported him
Alright tippytip. Time to lay down some very simple facts. What you are saying is 100% true. Yes many Germans opposed that war but majority of people did support Hitler and Nazism. However, what you seem to be forgetting, or perhaps never learned, is that majority of the citizens who supported Hitler supported his messages of unifying the nation. He gave the German citizens hope in a time of need so they followed him. Thing is, majority of the German people did not even know about concentration/death camps and the overall idea of the Final Solution. They thought Hitler was just some great guy coming to help them out, while not knowing anything of his atrocities. Those who did know about his extermination, however, could do almost nothing about it. Yeah in retrospect you could say, "They should've stood up and said something or gone into action!" But what could they really do? Even if they gathered a group of people, they could easily be subdued, and going to the police was useless. So those who did know it really couldn't do anything and if they did, they risked their lives. Hence, most the people he (angryrussian's grandfather) was defending, were innocent and had nothing to do with the Final Solution.
P.S. You also seem like the guy who would think Nazi's = Horrible Murderers, but the reality is that most of the Nazi's were on the border fighting other nations to keep theirs safe while a smaller portion was apart of the Final Solution.

You do realise many Germans that opposed Hitler were killed? Some were shot for not saluting to the crazy bastard. Many did not support what he did, but had no choice to follow him out of fear. Some were even extremely brave enough to help the Jews when they were in the concentration camps.

(im american) tippytiptip YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT! Ppl supported hitler cuz at the time he came to power the country was in shambles he seemed like a strong ruler so ppl went with it. In a way he was a good leader, he took a poor demorilized country and made a powerful world factor
thats exactly my fucking point, the majority of germany supported him, and if he had won the war all 99% of those people still would have supported him because he would have won and returned germany to its former glory, it was only cause he fucked up and lost the war that all those people turned against him

Just because they supported his initial politics does not necessarily mean they supported the war, the death of the jews, or anything else for that matter. America voted bush into power, but no one believes everyone supported him. Why can't you accept the same might be true of another country?

Anon is correct, this was a time in German history when Hitler was the only one who genuinely seemed to give a fuck. Yes he was kinda fucked in the head but he made alot of important decisions and was good at intimidating/embarrassing other countries leaders. As a result he became something of a hero because he showed what was seen as German strength. (The fact that he was Austrian was neatly overlooked) He also made good use of propganda and, whether you like it or not, the governments of more than one country have learned from his example of media manipulation.
