I looked it up and there isn't a commonly agreed upon 'penetrating distance' for blanks other than close range. You're right; it likely wouldn't be fatal though some damage would likely be caused.

No, I looked it up last time a post about blanks was posted. Blanks can kill you within 10 feet if shot at a vital organ or of course the head.

"Blank cartridges frequently contain a paper, wood or plastic plug called a wad which seals the powder in the case. This wad can cause severe penetrating wounds at close range and bruising at medium ranges."

The gasses that are released have the same amount of force as a regular bullet and at point blank the resulting pressure being released can, not exactly pierce, but blow its way through a target.

Slamfire with a blank.
It's unusual with AKs because they have some safety feature to prevent slam fires, like a spring-loaded firing pin. But it's possible that the rifle was broken, and the pin was jammed stuck in the firing pin channel, extending past the bolt face.

well it actually it can't fire without reason, the mechanism is just constructed in a way that will not allow it to fire unless the trigger will be pulled, most likely he had a finger on a trigger at the time of reload, and that was the result, quite common mistake in such matter as i was told

this was so damn long You need to login to view this link you know what a slam fire is? he pulled the charging handle back as did his comrades, let go, the bolt slammed shut as its supposed to but the firing pin can come unhooked causing the weapon to fire. slam fire.

im well aware of what im talking about.

I'm pretty sure there was never a bullet in the gun. The army normally uses only gunpowder when doing honor firings just like when they are doing exercises and even if there had been a bullet in the gun there is usually put a cork in the end of the gun so only the air can leave the barrel.

You don't have to be an expert to understand the basics of how a gun works. The bullets shell contains a primer, that when hit by the hammer ignites the gunpowder in the shell behind the bullet. The gas from the explosion expands, and pushes the bullet out the barrel (And in the ak, the gas goes into the gas tube, forcing a piston back that ejects the empty shell before bringing a new one into the chamber).

A barrel obstruction normally ends in one of two ways, the barrel being cleared by the bullet, or the barrel giving out completely. And no one in their right mind would try to stop a 7.62×39 or a 5.45x39 bullet with cork...
