I got a chunk of my thumb sliced off at work one day by a metal rod that my friend pushed. I couldn't write at all for about a week and a half. I calmly told my mom what happened and showed her, and she forced me to go to the doctor after she fainted. Turns out it just needed about another millimeter before my bone would be scratched.

That actually not a very good idea. If it was a larger wound, taking whatever made the cut out would not be smart as the cut can bleed more if nothing is stopping the bleeding. I had a similar thing (as in pic) happen to me the only difference was the fact that it was with one of the older style safety pins, and it went all the was through my foot. The nurse advised me not to take it out, as it would bleed a lot worse if it was taken out.

Fun way to prove this: Find a balloon and fill it up. Find some tape (any kind works) and place a strip of tape anywhere on the balloon. Now take a thumbtack, and insert the thumbtack into the balloon through the tape. The balloon will not pop unless you take the thumbtack out.

Another reason why you dont want to take the thumbtack out is because there is a piece of skin on the tip of it, if you pull it out the wrong way the skin will be left in your body and you could get really sick. Its kinda rare though
