The difficulty just increases on its own if you don't collect the pages. If you pick up the pages, difficulty increases. If you don't pick up pages, difficulty increases.

It's times like these when I wish games like these scared me. It seems fun to be scared by games like Amnesia or Slender or SCP 173.
