You can still play it,and you can still save on it,but you have to change the internal battery. IF you do its best to have it powered on to do it(very carefully) and then when you do it,you save it.
BUt its a bitch to do sadly. My Silver has died and my Gold is starting to.
So its time to upgrade to a DS and get Heart gold and Soul Silver

Then you're either too young to understand, or too new to the series to understand.
Not trying to insult you, but for whatever reason you truly can't understand.
This isn't like a sibling deleting your save by accident, or a vengeful friend releasing your star pokemon, or even a parent throwing your game out... In those situations, you have someone to blame. There's somewhere to redirect your anger and frustration, someone to push your sorrow and pain on to... When this happens though? When things you can't control happen, and nobody caused it... That cartridge held time, effort, energy, and memories. It held countless hours and care for each of your pokemon. Pokemon who were your friends. Yes, the were only sprites on a screen, but they were your friends. They were as real as the kids you played the games with.
And now that's all gone.
Every minute spent, every long night, every struggle, every encounter...
And every friend...
Gone.
Lost.
Taken from you.
And nobody to blame. No one to take it out on, nobody to redirect your rage at. Nobody to fall against and hold accountable for the loss you've just suffered.
It's an illness with no cure...

Did I butcher something? Damn it I need to be better on my spell check >.>
Yeah I agree. I play my silver all the time, but I have to leave it on to save my progress(or shut it off and turn it right back on) so it sucks. But GBC and GBA games will be a dime a dozen soon.
