Honestly, is wasn't AS brutal as I thought it was gonna be, but it was definitely brutal enough to make Saw, Hostel, and the Human Centipede look like slapstick comedies by comparison. At least 5 animals are brutally slain on camera, and the special effects for the gore involving the actors was so good (I say that from my own observations as well) that the Italian government actually sued the filmmakers under grounds of murder because they (the government) actually thought they (the filmmakers) really killed off the actors on screen. Also if you're squeamish about sex, violence fetishes, rape, and blood-sacrifices involving sexual intercourse, then you will probably be completely repulsed by this film.

It's a memorable movie, and definitely leaves in impact, if not a scar, on you when it's over. And it was made in the 70s, which just amazes the hell out of me that a film that old, in an era with many special effects limits, still manages to outrank in 'disturbing' against most modern takes on horror/"gore"rror.

If it also means anything, I'm 21 and have seen my fair share of horror movies and this movie still managed to rustle my jimmies deeply. I don't want to tell you "Don't watch it!" but at the same time, don't take my advice lightly, because this movie does pack quite a surprising punch.
