Possibilities:
1. They are literally metal bars made to look like magnets (OP has brushed this off multiple times)
2. The north and south ends are cast incorrectly (unlikely)
3. Some magnets may have lost there magnetism. If every "magnet" on the right had no magnetism, whereas every "magnet" on the left was magnetic, the same thing would happen.
4. The poles of some of the magnets have been swapped. (Possible by repeatedly stroking the magnet, north to south pole, with a south-sided magnet)
5. OP broke the science. Again.
