nice rig, thats really similar to mine, i have a phenom x6 1055t at 3.7 ghz and 2 5770's which are about the same as a 6870. id rather have 1 card instead of 2 though

Well To be honest I would not buy a laptop for gaming, jsut by a cheap one that processes well and you should be good, you jsut need the basics for a laptops

I go out there from time to time... however that giant yellowish white orb in the sky tends to burn my skin if i stay in the way of its rays.

if you bought that mac above, and if you built a pc greater than it, you would still save about $700, i think that mac is about $2000, while my friend built a computer that could play games that won't release for the next few years (not saying games projected, but what their requirements would be for high-graphics games in the future) and he only spent about $1200

You don't even have to build it yourself, actually. The PC I'm on now is running 6 cores and a Radeon HD 6670 (I think) And it was about 900 bucks, excluding the monitor. The graphics card isn't the most high end, but this thing still tears up Battlefield 3 and pretty much whatever else I tell it to do.

hah i have a 6 core CPU with radeon hd 6870... but mine was around 1100 because i bought like 2 extra fans and a somewhat above average graphics card.

I'm thinking about upgrading my card soon. I'd like to be able to play my games on Ultra settings, but as of right now, since I run on High for everything, it's not a huge priority.

yeah i run bf3 on high settings. but Battlefield is like the only graphics intensive game i played, since i usually play on the Source engine. But i tried switching my video settings on Battlefield 3 to ultra, and i looked around, i dropped to around 30 fps. so im not going to be playing on ultra anytime soon.

should have gone for the same ghz processor in dual core, core numbers are simply what the processor's cache is divided among those cores. dual core gives you memory dedication to multiple high-paging processes, while allowing you to dedicate more to said processes. 6-core would be good if you could have a very high-cache processor and you need to run bf3 5 times over. although your computer does sound godly. sorry if i offended you bro, just stating facts

Yeah, I was going to go with Dual Cores, but then my dad got me the computer as a late Christmas present (I was just gonna buy it myself) and he's all "It's got six cores" And I'm like "I don't even need the other four!" But, at least it won't get too hot. I'd rather not spend a bunch more money on things like fans and water cooling systems.

Yeah, I don't like the interface at all. It's difficult to navigate. Also, I looked at the specs of one of the newest macbooks and saw the processor in there. Of course it was like, the most expensive Intel on the market. Seriously, Intel makes good processors, but AMD makes processors that are just as good, and incredibly cheaper. Though, I do hear that Intel processors stay cooler.

plus amd makes apu's, while i don't know very much about them i do know that if you get one that's pretty powerful and you crossfire it with an even more powerful graphics card, you get smexiness.

I use a Mac since March for University now.

I have to admit that Mac OSX (the only reason I bought the Mac) for working purposes only is better than any Windows Notebook I've tried so far. Especially the touchpad is pretty good.

For gaming of course I use my self-built Windows computer. But little things like emulators or all Steam games also run on my Mac and I sometimes play on longer trainrides.

Dude it's all about the fucking computer specs. A mac with 10gb of ram will handle games (Limited selection obviously) much faster than a PC with 4gb.

RAM almost has nothing to do with gaming. Sure, you wouldn't want to game with 1gb of RAM, but still.

Welllll, from a hardware standpoint, yes a PC is better. Cheaper for better product = better. And software wise (which is where you are getting your better in each area) mac is harder to have whatever software you want. PC is easier. I have OSx and Windows 7 and Ubuntu on my computer. So i get the software that makes macs okay, and the software that makes pcs amazing.

Well, like with a lot of Mac users they were brainwashed that only one kind of computer is good for everything. Personally, I see it not as the OS running on the system, but the components that allow it to run. Which in that sense, I'd buy a windows computer any day over a Mac that is more expensive for the same things. That's just me though. I am a computer science major and I need a computer that can actually run the programs I write.

That's understandable. My dad is a computer programmer, so he has to use Windows computers for a lot of the programming type stuff. But, he also wants to own a Mac, because he could use it for other stuff that he could do easier on a Mac.

I have not personally owned a Mac, because, you know.. I don't have thousands to spend on a computer. I do know people that own Macs though, and have used them. Anything they could do on their Macs and anything I've seen anyone do on their Macs can be done on a Windows computer. $500~$1000 Computer that can do stuff that a Mac can do + game pretty well (especially if you build your own) > $2000 Mac

If you haven't owned a Mac yourself then you need to shut your mouth, because you can't form an opinion on other peoples opinions. Yea, you may have used theirs from time to time, but you don't know all the crap they may have downloaded to make it so slow or suck or whatever. You can easily form an opinion on something without EVER owning it. I've used their Macs long enough to form an opinion on it and I've seen enough to form an opinion. Did I ever say it was slow? I don't think I did. I think I said that a PC can do the same thing a Mac can do, and most of the times, they can do it better. I'm incredibly sorry I can't spent $2000 on a Mac when I can spend $400 on a PC that can do the same things a Mac can.

I still don't think you're correct on the fact that a super low priced PC can perform better than a Mac. The point I'm trying to make, is that you don't know a Mac's capability until you actually use one often, if not then every day. And, of course, that doesn't apply to EVERYTHING, but for something like this it does apply. Macs are good for somethings and Windows computers are good for others. End of discussion. There is no more to it.

Yes, you can make PCs do things that Macs can do but that also runs the other way. That's the point I'm trying to make. One is not better than the other!! They are just fucking different you stupid little cunt.

You also have to remove the Mac OS for it to do the better stuff a PC can do. PCs are also much more durable than Macs are. You could drop a PC on wood floor, and it'd have a few scratches and dents, and you might even have to get the screen replaced. If you dropped a Mac, it would most likely be damaged beyond repair.
People only buy Macs for the looks, and the name of course.

Well, I'm careful with my computer, so that hardly matters. I also enjoy the fact that it would be extremely hard for someone to get a virus on my Mac. No viruses=longer life and an all together safer computer to use.

It would be extremely hard for anyone to get a virus on my PC because I'm not a complete dumbass who doesn't check sites, downloads, etc.. I don't download every single thing I see either.

Some viruses don't require you to download anything at all. You can get infected by a virus just by entering your password on facebook or funnyjunk. When you enter the World Wide Web you are opening your computer up to a lot of threats.

You can't get a virus by just logging in to facebook. You can, however, get a virus from logging into suspicious sites. This can be stopped by changing settings, if that even is needed. Most of the time your browser will stop it for you, or things like MSE.

Macs can get virus just as easily as normal computers. The only advantage macs have here is apples idiot safe. It is much harder to download stuff on macs, so it's less common to get bigger viruses.

I forgot there's no such thing as protection against viruses.

I never said there wasn't, but not all computers have virus protection. You can't just make stupid assumptions like that.

I'm going to cut in here just to say that I have had the same Mac for 5+ years, and I've maybe spent a total of one hour troubleshooting and "fixing shit" with it. The Superdrive went out, but that was within the warranty time period. It still behaves just like it did when I got it. I don't even really know what a driver is anymore. I have never had to install one on this computer. If you can come up with the money, it is nice having a computer that is just always working and ready to go no matter what the fuck you do with it. I do digital audio on mine. Thought I'd throw that out there, too.

That was also a great point. I've only owned mine for about a month, so I have no idea about the long run. But, thanks for the input.
