i would believe that the megalodon exists. and as silly as it sounds, even mermaids. we've only discovered so little that anything at this time could exist

Look up "The Bloop."

In the summer of 1997, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration picked up a sound from deep beneath the Pacific. The sound seemed to come from an animal far larger than any we've ever seen. This was the Bloop.

I consider it BS that they are trying to call it a Icequake years after it happened. If it was "consistent" with an icequake, they would have identified it immediately.

Just to correct OP, that 'largest tooth' is actually an enlarged reconstruction, not the real deal. proportionately speaking, if that tooth was real then it would probably have to come from a 200 ft long megalodon (the average blue whale is less than half that length). The real largest teeth found to date are around 7.5 inches, meaning the largest megalodons might have maxed out at 60-70 ft.
You can all sleep easier now by a factor of about 140 ft or so. Probably wouldn't matter anyway, such a large predator would likely go after much larger game than a lone swimmer. That and the whole extinction thing, but you can never be certain...

Imagine being alone in the deep ocean, so dark you can't see anything, but feeling something enormous move behind you.

Scary stuff used to live in our oceans. I kinda wish there were even bigger sea creatures
something like a 50 meter long pliosaur. That would be so awesome.
