Now of course, I love dogs, and I hate to see horrible things happen to dogs...but maybe, just this once, could we just sacrifice a few dogs to see this become a reality.

that'd be a russian trained border collie. it'd probably be smarter and better trained than most soldiers.

Ah, I saw the video of this experiment. It didn't go the full way, they were trying to create machines of war with dogs as the pilot, so that the dogs would want to protect their masters and thus kill enemies. However, they only got so far as chopping off the dogs head. Thing is, it actually worked; there is a full video of the dog head alive and interacting and it actually seems perfectly fine, not even in any pain. They kept it alive via a blood pump that circulated blood out of the brain, oxidized it, then sent it back in. The dog reacted to stimulus such as noise, taste, petting, approval, pictures, and was even fed a piece of cheese (which comically slid out the back of the oesophagus with a plop). The experiment ended there, as people were horrified by it and many morals/ethics were questioned, which led to the scientists leading the project being disbanded and the project was scrapped.

A damn shame, I think. Although I love animals, and would never want to see one get hurt, I think the breakthrough (not to mention scientific research it would implore) would be well worth the loss of a few dogs and perhaps a few humans

Ah, what a shame that morals kept back our scientific progress. We would be so advanced without them, experimenting on men, women, children and animals.

Those morals keep us from being monsters. Don't let go of them.

You already chopped the dogs head off, you may as well be allowed to go the full nine yards. Morals are also subjective, there is no inherent goodness anymore than there is inherent evil, and it's an absolutely ridiculous thing to let such a project be stopped, not even because what they were doing was considered evil, but because "It looks gross" (as people knew what was going on before the show-and-tell, they just didn't care until they were faced with it)
