Yeah it's a pretty good way to keep limbs alive until they can get reattached once the bit it needs to be reattached to is ready to have something reattached to it.

I'm guessing here. I assume there is nerve damage to the wrist as well, so by doing this, they're allowing the wrist's tissue to heal before reattaching the hand. I heard of something similar about a man that who's penis had been removed, and it was attached to his arm while the pubic area healed.

I can just imagine one of his friends accidentally lifting the sleeve of that guys t-shirt, and witnessing the abomination that was the arm-penis.

My only explenation here would be that if it's closer to the center of your body, it heals faster and is a lot safer. Re-attaching the hand in the right place would mean that you attach it right at the end of your body, where the body temperature is the lowest, blood flow is the lowest and can be easly damaged in sleep.

sometimes the trauma to the place it belongs to is too severe to have a successful reattachment. They wait for the wrist (or whatever) to become stable again before putting the hand back on. Plus it makes for one hell fo a story.

Look near the armpit. It says 65 days, which I assume to mean the hand's been there for that long.
