One time me and my friend decided to try and swim to the next island over (a little over an hour long swim through semi open ocean or a five hour hike if you go around this sort of inlet thing, we had snacks and stuff in water tight bags that were sorta kinda buoyant. while I was swimming a sea lion started to swim beside me and I was so ******* scared it was ridiculous, I had heard stories of them grabbing people and dragging them down and it just like freaked the **** out of me because for the entire hour long swim he kept popping up within arms reach and just watching me. Also by the time I was half way out I looked around for my friend and he was no where to be seen because it turned out after 15 minutes of swimming he saw the sea lion and turned back, on the return trip when the sun had started to set a skiff passed by me and offered me a ride.

Anyways long story short, swam right next to a sea lion once and it terrified me but end of the day it was just curious.

so it's a shark close to him, the amount of people who are attacked by them is ridiculously low compared to the fear of them, I think you have a bigger chance being killed by a coconut palm

Does anybody else notice the second shark? Or is it my fear induced hallucination?

I've had sharks swim through my legs plenty of times. They're all over the place here at the beaches and I've come to like them over time. It might be scary the first few times, but it eventually becomes such a regular thing that you don't mind it anymore.

Crazy story, I was at Mexico City Beach in Florida, we had a house and boat down there and we would ride out to this island off the coast. It's an uninhabited island wildlife refuge kind of thing. We hop off the boat about 20 foot from the shore (waist deep, so that the boat won't be beached by waves) also do the same when getting back on the boat. We are leaving the island and wade out to the 20 foot and hundreds of manta rays just swim all around us. My step dad just says "Wil, don't move" of course, the 13 year old me says "Why?", "Just DON'T" "But why?" "There is a twelve foot shark 6 feet to my left.
Ensue panic mode, I thrash like a wounded seal and dive over the edge of the boat kicking in the water. Step dad is now ******** his pants.
No on got hurt.

Story time!

Back before I injured myself (story for another time) I was really into the scuba scene, up to the point that I got hired by a company to take tours out this is in Australia btw. So one day I've taken this group of 6 newbies out (1-5 dives each) and about 5 minutes in to it a shark comes out from behind a rocky outcropping about 10 meters ahead of us. This being my first encounter of a shark decided to play it cool and just sit back and let the shark do his thing. I signaled to everyone to just be cool. But because these newbies got **** scared they started flailing around and trying to swim away and get to the surface. So all of the newbies except one are swimming for their lives, the other guy was a mate of mine so he knew to just play it cool. Because I didn't feel like becoming shark bait I turned around and made the swim back to the boat, just as we reach the platform this shark decides to say hello, because I didn't point it out before this shark was a Great White, and was around 6-7 meters long. So here I am sitting in open water under the boat waiting for the other guy to finish and this big ass shark comes within a meter of me. It sits there for less then 10 seconds then just swims off. Needless to say none of those newbies ever got back in the water.

If you ever take a flight over a beach in a smaller plane and cruise around 1000' or so, you would be surprised at all of the sharks that are right by the swimming areas
