And he held up the sky not the world. common misconception. The globe he held was supposed to represent the heavens.

Titans were the beings that ruled before the gods, they called it a golden age and it was led by Zues'(god) father, Chronos. Chronos' brother was Atlas.

he wasn't a person or a god, i believe he was a titan, just like Oranos, Chronus Gaia etc

Ouranos and Gaia were not Titans. They were the father and mother of the Titans

Titans are considered deities. The name "Titan" was just a way to classified the children of Ouranos and Gaia. They were later overthrown by a newer generation of gods, The Olympians.

Titans are gods...they're just in the Titan class. The other gods were Olympians.

Just yesterday I happened to be thinking of the story about the world being held up and who it was being held up by. Thanks for the info :).

And it's a common mistake to say he was forced to hold up the world. In truth he was forced to carry the sky.

WTF? I thought he held up the sky..?
User avatar #242 to #7 - hidemoto (03/19/2013) [-]
But he didn't really hold the world did he? he just held the pillars that kept the world and the heavens apart. right?

The Titans are actually gods too as many of the later greco-roman pantheon were Chronos and Rhea's children (Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, and Demeter). Though we call them "Gods" they are technically referred as an "Olympian". Though technically that also means that Hekatonkheires and Cyclopeans are gods too as they are all children of Gaia and Uranus so make of that what you will.
