The idea of simultaneously attacking/ wiping out more than a handful of the 59 AFB across thousands of miles goes beyond the realistic ability of any invading force. I'm not sure if even a concerted ICBM strike would be able to get all of them successfully.

Its a bit of a stretch but it could be done with just a few MIRVs and some kind of delay from say NORAD ( or other such installation that may or may not exist in the interest of keeping it safe ) The military works on a basic principle; hope for the best, prepare for the worst. That all being said I believe this was a plan for near by NATO airbases, not those in the US specially considering thats a long ******* distance for military planes to fly for an attempt to attack russia, given ya know you can basically putt your ass in calm seas from alaska over to russia with an outboard motor, that and ya know huge ass aircraft carriers are a thing in the US (google says the shortest distance is only 55miles)
