Please no one thumb me down, but I have a question. I listen to what I see as metal- which leans more in the deathcore/metalcore side.
When I listen to bands like the ones you listed, they feel like rock. Like, super slow and soft. I can't see myself going crazy and moshing to those bands, cuz they just aren't very intense feeling.
So my question is, what makes them qualify as metal? And if those bands are seen as what metal is all about, what genre is my music?

Without these bands, there would be no deathcore/metalcore. These guys started it all. I will agree with you that bands like Emmure ( I don't listen to much metalcore or whatever genre they are) are pretty fucking metal. It just pisses me off that little kids run around saying Asking Alexandria is fucking metal and the next song on their iPod is a Little Wayne song....juss sayin...GOTTA KEEP THE METALHOOD ALIVE!!!

I always saw metal as an evolving genre. It started with rock, then the old bands that we still call metal today, and it's just been getting more intense since then.
That's how I got into metal too. Started with classic rock from my parents like the Eagles, then moved on to nu metal like Linkin Park, (their old stuff), and now I'm at metalcore.
It bothers me when people pick at difference between sub-genres of metal. It's all equal to me.

AA & ADTR are Post-Hardcore/(Melodic)Metalcore
