Well bass players are important, people are just too hard headed or generalizing to get it into their head..
But generally in most bands.. bass players are easily replaced because they play the simplest progressions and more and more use picks and just play simple things that most could pick up a bass and play.
But people like Les Claypool, Flea etc. are amazing bassists, but they aren't very common.
