Impact is normally used, make sure the border of the text is black and the inside is white so you can read it. Not sure how you do that with paint though, what I do is open word, make wordart with a black border and white inside, then cut+paste back into paint. It's convoluted, I know but it works

I'd just do it in gimp.

The only album you could justify calling terrible in comparison to their others is Black Clouds and Silver Linings. A Dramatic Turn of Events was actually really good.

I agree with you in saying Black Clouds was a bad album, but the fact that the mix for A Dramatic Turn was honky and Mike's drums were damn flat is just fucked. Seriously. I will punch whoever mixed the album if I ever meet him.

That said, it wasn't a complete disappointment. I got to hear James' voice and how much better it's gotten over the years.

John Petrucci.....his distorted guitar tone was kinda awful but his playing was nice.

John Myung; well, his bass was audible.

Jordan was Jordan.

Mike and his recessed drums.....it left me wanting more in terms of production quality.

That was Mikes first album with them though. Give him some time, you and I both know how nuts of a drummer mike can be, and I think a lot of that came through in Breaking All Illusions. The music is timed very strangely, but they still sound tight playing it. Bridges in the Sky is also a good example of the album. Of course, it is not as good as their other albums, but I still can't say it was disappointing. As far as the mix goes, I'll agree that it was pretty bland.

I'm not at all blaming Mike for how his drums sounded. I'm fairly certain JP was the one who produced the record, so I guess he was responsible; I'll slap his hands if I ever meet him, tell him, "NO, YOU WILL NOT TOUCH!".

I'd have to disagree with you completely.

In my opinion, their worst album to date was Train of Thought. And it's not even a bad album, just in comparison to all their other albums, there wasn't enough variety. This Dying Soul and In the Name of God are some of my favourite tracks, however.

But Black Clouds & Silver Linings and A Dramatic Turn of Events are in my top 5 Dream Theater albums, also in there are Images And Words, Systematic Chaos, and Scenes from a Memory.

Black Clouds has so many amazing tracks on it that it totally makes up for the genericness of "whither". A Nightmare To Remember, The Shattered Fortress, The Best of Times, and ESPECIALLY The Count of Tuscany are all 10/10 epics in my opinion.

And same goes for A Dramatic Turn. Every track on there serves its purpose and is beautifully original and epic. On The Backs of Angels, Lost Not Forgotten, This is The Life, Bridges in The Sky, Outcry, and Breaking All Illusions all sound completely original and tell their own epic story. The only song on that album I wouldn't give 10/10 to is Build Me Up, Break Me Down because it just doesn't hold as much originality as the other tracks do.

Perhaps my opinion is completely biased, because A Dramatic Turn was my first Dream Theater album, and I fell in love with every track on there, but perhaps that also makes me unbiased as well, because, at the time of listening to it, the name "Mike Portnoy" meant absolutely nothing to me. And being a Jazz and Theory nut, all of the songs appealed to me composition and performance wise.

I've been listening to DT since Six Degrees came out, and I immediately went back to Images and Words [since the first record sounds like shit] and fell in love.

Train of Thought was a pretty bad album, but it still has tracks that I like:

Stream of Consciousness, Endless Sacrifice, In The Name of God, and Honor Thy Father.

My opinion is sort of biased in the sense that I don't think DT will MY DT without Mike Portnoy, but as long as they're continuing to make good music, that's all that matters.

Looking back at Black Clouds, I suppose it's kinda dumb for me to say it was a bad album, but then again, I'm buttmad that my favorite band lost one of it's founding members.

The Shattered Fortress and The Best of Times are my favorite tracks off the album, and I'm going to learn Fortress as my first seven string track if I ever get hold of a decent seven string guitar.

Compared to Images and Words + Metropolis Pt.2, nothing is as great.

Well whatever, it doesn't matter which albums are good and which aren't as good. Every album they've come out with are amazing.

I also do like their first album, though. It has a basement-band sound, which is kind of a turn off, yet there's such amazing playing on it, it's ridiculous.
