I find Paul Gilbert's music tasteless.
Guthrie Govan on the other hand is god

its really about what style of music you listen too... Andy james for melodic metal, guthrie for all things bluesy, jeff loomis for zeh sweep picking, misha mansoor for the unique riffing.

Well, I like almost all genres. I just think he makes cheesy and generally bad songs.

The thing about paul is that he does it to showcase skill... hes one of the best alternate picking guitarists in the world and without that awe understanding, most of his songs do fall flat

I don't really listen to the music so that the artist gets a chance to showcase his skill.
I don't really think he is one of the best

if you dont think hes one of the best you have no clue about anything guitar related...

Hey, man. Why you gotta be like this? We're just discussing music, there's no need to get all personal. It's just a matter of taste
I've been playing guitar for 6-7 years now so I think I've got a pretty good idea about guitar. In addition, I've been going to a music conservatory for some time( can't recall the number of years). So I think I have pretty good idea.
Your skill at an instrument doesn't depend on one of your feats or how fast you can strum your pick up and down. Rather on the overall skill and feeling of your works.
I just think Paul Gilbert lacks feeling and that vibe that makes so many guitarists amazing.
I would say that you don't have the slighest idea of anything guitar related, based on your earlier statement.

alternate picking is a style of guitar playing... you dont need to be able to write good music to be crazy good at guitar.... thats taking away all the "taste"... its known fact by MANY that hes the best at that style of playing and tons of magazines and groups back that... i really dont care what your "taste" is. doesnt make him suck it makes you not like his stuff.

Well, for starters, alternate picking is not a style, it is a technique.
In order to be good at guitar you need to be able to do more than play fast. You're thinking of the word tecnically proficient. Those words have two different meanings in music.
"It's a known fact by MANY that he's the best at that style playing..."
Excactly what kind of style is that? Do you mean fast and dull?
The fact that I don't like him doesn't ultimately mean he sucks, but it means he doesn't pass the test based my criterias for a good player.
Where are you from and how long have you been playing?
