For serious though, the best possible zombie survival outfit would be a padded jumpsuit with a sharkmail on over it. Sharks can't bite through it, so neither would a zombie, the padding stops them from cutting the skin, preventing infection, it doesn't rust, and it's surprisingly light.
Of course a bullet would still kill you, and they might pile up on you, leading to death by suffocation, but still.
Plate armor would help with being crushed to death, if constructed correctly. Plate armor would also reduce the likelihood of your bones getting broken or disjointed. If you live in a place with few guns lying around, where bandits will be much more likely to use melee weapons and bows instead of guns, plate armor would be a huge advantage.
So armor that effectively made you functionally unkillable by anything short of a cannon, untill relatively recently, is gonna help you not get killed?
Who'da thonk it...
He brought up the possibly of being crushed to death while wearing shark mail, I pointed out that plate armor would have less of a problem with that. I then brought up that resistance to broken and disjointed bones, because that is something plate helps with that shark mail doesn't. He pointed out that a gun would still kill easily, so I brought up that not everywhere has guns.
Everything I said was relevant, and was a counter statement to his "the best possible zombie survival outfit would be a padded jumpsuit with a sharkmail on over it.". It was a lot more than just stating what everyone knows, so there is no need to make sarcastic comments.
Mate, theres always a need for sarcastic comments...
By the way, plate armor was actually rather effective against old timey firearms. I suspect that most well made plate armor would also stand up pretty well, against your average 9mm.
9mm does bounce right off some plate armor. Assuming it is mild steel, if it is 16 gauge or thicker, it resists 9mm and .45 ACP, especially on the more domed parts. Thinner areas, like the lower legs, biceps, and forearms don't fare so well. Source: me, I make plate armor and have seen it tested against many weapons, including firearms.
The moral of the story is, don't be ill-equipped for the apocalypse, pay me thousands of dollars to make you armor for the zombie apocalypse that is totally gonna happen, honest.
