Farther from the comics? which ones are you reading? They got almost EVERYTHING right.

I liked this new movie better. Spider man (in any comic about him) was always a snarky smartass who loved his powers.

The original trilogy made it him look too old, and he wanted his powers gone.
Plus there almost no Gwen Staci in the original trilogy.

Actually, it's much closer. In the comics, he made his web shooters, and his first love was Gwen Stacy. Gwen was killed by the green goblin, and then he went on to love mary jane. Uncle Ben's death was bad, and I didnt like how he didnt become a wrestler, but other than that, it was actually much closer.

I'm going to rant about this movie for a minute, so please move on if you're not interested and red-thumb if you must. Now...

This movie wasn't bad. In fact, it was fine; I enjoyed it. Casting was good and the action was fine, but the story-telling and pacing was absolute **** at times and I have no idea why other people can't see that. Some guy below me mentioned that Peter's transition to Spider-man was too fast, and he's right. Not only was it too fast, but it was also meaningless and devoid of any personal growth or character development that typically comes along when someone decides to become a superhero.

The bridge scene where Peter gives his mask to the kid in the car, tells him it will "make [him] strong". That's a good line and it should have been a great scene, but it wasn't Know why? Because Peter himself wasn't strong and he definitely wasn't a hero. Saying "it will make you strong" is indicative that becoming Spider-man brought about a change in character for Peter, but it didn't because he wasn't even Spider-man until immediately after that scene and because he only made the costume to protect his identity while he went out and hunted down Uncle Ben's killer.

There was no catharsis, no heroic awakening. Nothing. Up until then, Peter was out for vengeance. He wasn't a hero at all; he was weak. And now, when he's trying to comfort this kid, he's telling me that putting on that costume made him a better person? No, it didn't, and no, he isn't. He only realizes he could do more when he saves that kid and thinks "oh, that felt nice", but it doesn't matter anymore because he never actually learned anything.

Okay, I'm done. Thumb me down if you must.

The new Spider-man film was the best one to date. Andrew Garfield can act cirlces around Tobey. Also it does follow the comics slightly better than the original three. All in all the movie was great.

Uh... it was closer to the comics. He didn't have freaky web glands in his wrists. And he wasn't a total pussy.

**** you, OP. The original trilogy was 100x worse. While it might not have been exactly the same as the comics it was much more closer to the overall theme of the comics. Stacy was the woman, webs don't come out of his ******* hands like magic, and he isn't the complete embodiement of a nerd with no balls. And even if it wasn't as close to the comics as you like it was still way better than the others

I was surprised at how much I liked the new Spiderman movie, when I heard they were rebooting the series I was like "Are you ******* kidding me?", and thought it would be worse than Spiderman 3, but after seeing it, I thought it was better than the originals. I liked the actors a lot better in the new one, there were some issues with the story, but whatever, I liked it.
