He started out as a bad guy, but fans really liked him so marvel made him a good guy.

I don't know much, so I don't preach. As far as I know, he's an anti hero. He isn't good or bad, he's just a bad ass that does whatever he wants. However, he seems to lean more towards the good side.

I suppose that makes sense, but he still does do bad guy things though right?

Sorry mate, I'm not a comic buff. I just know some info from a friend ;)
I'm assuming he just doesn't follow the whole "must not let any one single person die" mentality that most superheroes do.
