The birth of dota

I think it would be more accurate to say "MOBA" rather than Dota because LoL isn't Dota but it's definitely MOBA which is the genre that was born out of Dota. Then again it does kinda work anyway.

no u arent getting it Warcraft didnt create mobas it created dota which wasnt a moba as the term hadnt been created so saying warcraft created mobas like u said isnt true as that is what dota did.

we both already has the same information but the thing is that we both look at it differently


The difference between how I look at it and how you look at it is this:


How I look at it: Dota IS the first moba therefore the first moba came from wacraft 3 and Moba wouldn't have been created if wacraft 3 didn't create Dota.

How you look at it: Dota CREATED the Moba genre so so you would rather say that warcraft 3 just created Dota but Moba then came from Dota afterwards.


In all honesty we are both correct, it's just that we have different ways of looking at it.

oh wait... you mean that Dota STILL isn't a Moba don't you? well I'll have you know that Moba stands for "Multiplayer online battle arena". so just like there are RPG mods, Dota is a Moba mod

I know it wasn't known as a Moba because the term "Moba" didn't even exist back then. But the way you put it it's like dinosaurs weren't dinosaurs while humans didn't have a word for them.

Well, LoL is derived from DOTA (Defence of the Ancients), which was a "game within a game" on battle.net where players basically did what is done in LoL, except on a harder level. After that some guys realised they could just make it a bit easier and make a game out of it (that isn't within battle.net). After some tinkering you get LoL.

tl;dr LoL is derived from a Warcraft 3 game on battle.net

Because it's blasphemous to play or know about LoL and its popularity without knowing its forefather.
