No matter how much you think you want a Katawa Shoujo anime: it will never happen. There is no main route nor main storyline, and it is a completely free English Doujin Game. If it ever got a series of any kind: it would be fan-made, pretty damn shitty, and it would likely be a non-canon harem-route.
yes there is, it would be shizuine, because she is one of the first ones you meet, like all of those anime, then they would introduce the rest over the next 6 episodes, os at 7 you have all the main girls, they eat lunch show him in the class room, or lib, or the roof, the festival would be the summer episode, going to her house would be the meet the family, episode, there would be the fight with lily episode that is 10. then they would put in him asking misha for help in sign as an episode, then him taking the class for it, then him confessing to her on the roof, then having misha burst in his room, then they would either end it with him and shizune like in the VN at the graduation, with a few filler episodes in there. so in total 20 episode would be released, then the OAVs would encompass the other routes.
But the thing is, Shizune isn't the main. Yes she's the first one you meet (well, technically it was Misha), but that doesn't mean that she's the main heroine. If she were the Main heroine, there would be dialogue with her no matter which route you take... but she practically disappears from the game when you go on other routes.
yes but if you watch this type of anime you know the first one you are introduced to is the one that is the "main", also the others would be added in in parts of the show, like running in the morning with emi one episode, and helping rin in another, drinking tea with lilly, or going to the library, or to the "shanghai" and after giving you all the options it would end with shizune and you would get the other endings in OAVs.
but this is anti harem, you would get the kenji episode(that would be a required OAV) if you tried for all of them, and there are a few that don't go for the first but they usually try and go for the first one introduced, and usually make a showing of the amnesiac MC having met them before, and then him trying to piece together what happened back then, and who he met first.
You realize that a "Harem anime" doesn't necessarily mean a "Harem End". If there are several girls who like the main character: you've got a harem series. Katawa Shoujo fits into that same trope, even if they only fall in love with the character in their corresponding routes.
no your looking at a harem being many girls, yes generally that is true, but they would A) have to live together (emi is closest there), B) all be arguing over him (closest is lily and shizune) C) force him to make a decision, D)have the harem ending. now the anime i just laid out for you meets C) but the others aren't really an option here, if we are staying under +18, now not saying that all harem anime have to meet all requirements but more than one would be best, but the way i have it listed could fall loosely into that gender.
Since when is is common in a harem series for the heroines to live with the protagonist? A harem ending isn't needed for it to be a harem series, just look at Clannad. The other 2 are common, but certainly not required.
When I said "Harem series" I was making a generalization of series that have various girls that fall in love with the main character. Katawa Shoujo falls under this generalization. Ok, now back to our actual conversation: The first girl the main character meets is not necessarily the main heroine.

all the time in hanakos. you join them for lunch, she causes hanakos panic attack, shes constantly trying to make you do stuff. you help her with one thing and you ditch her for a lot.
emis is less frequent. when you start dating emi she pops up almost everytime there trouble. i kind of see her and misha as the same person and when you run into misha at the end you have to tell her everything to get the good end

the way i see it if they did they would choose th best route to appease fans. most people are looking at it as the game as a whole and not the game as the basis for the anime.
i could see them making an anime based on lillys route with the good ending. since the game has a lot of dead area where nothing actually happens they could use that to include all the other characters in some way. occasional excercise with emi, classes with misha and shizune.
hell maybe a little side story where misha gets shizune or ust her chasing after her. hell why make the anime about hisao? why not make a puella magi madoka twist where its about keni trying to save him from the girls and you watch each story line and the anime ends with the manly picnic. thats more of a joke than anything

But simply choosing a "Best Route" would anger a vast majority of the fans: because even if a route is the most popular, it's not more popular than all the rest combined. This is the reason why series generally go for a harem end for the anime, because it's the safest route for the studio to take.
i dont think it would anger everyone if there favorite was given enough of a showing. sure theres the people who would like those who hated Kora for not making her stay with bolin but you always anger someone. this seems like a fairly reasonable fan base. if made right it would satisfy all fans of the game. my favorite was emi but i know they wouldnt because shes usually seen as the second to last.
