The positions of the continents on a world map depend on your own position. If you're European, America is shown on the left side of the map, Europe is in the center and Asia on the right. in American maps 'Murica is in the center ofc and in OP's pic it's a "World Map by seen by Japanese" so Japan is in the center.

America is on the left in every map I've seen, and I'm American. We don't put America in the center.
