I dunno. Being the poorfag that I am, I walk pretty much everywhere. According to my last estimate I spend about 8 hours a week just walking from point A to point B, assuming I don't decide to go somewhere with friends. I'm surprised my legs aren't in better shape.

Well, when talking about walking long distances over long periods of time, then your legs are prone to get tired. If they still get tired while running, well thats a mystery.

You don't lose muscle mass from running, that said, I'm basing this off of like a 2 mile run everytime you work out.

Muscle mass isn't lost from basic cardio but doing a lot of it can reduce muscle mass because your body feeds on your muscles for energy. Yeah, you do lose weight but it is a combination of fat and muscle loss. if you look at marathon runners, they are sticks compared to sprinters. But it depends on how you what your ideal body is and I'm plenty thin so I'm looking to pack on muscle.

how do you mean? There is a visible decrease in muscle and then there is the actual decrease in weight. The way you counter-act loss of muscle form running is by putting in what you lost by eating, and not just eating but eating lots of protein and carbs. There's the whole dietary side of getting fit but I never payed attention to that. I'm too young to start dieting.

you will, you'll be very in shape. If you want to get some muscle and tone yourself out, you have to balance cardio with weight training. It's a delicate balance.

No and I honestly need to run more. My heart is just as bad as Hisao and I don't have arrhythmia. I hate running on treadmills and Hurricane Nemo decided to drop some snow so I've used this time to get back to the gym.

Well you can't just start right into heavy running immediately, you gotta work your way up to it. Besides there's nothing bad about running on treadmills although I do personally find it a bit harder, but look at it this way, if you're smooth sailing the tread mill, imagine how fast you'll be able to go and how long you'll be able to go on the tracks! or crosswalk, or street!

At my soccer tryouts, they made us run 3 miles. It was very difficult for me because I'm a goalie so I'm not built for endurance. Last year, I ran the 3 miles in about 28 min. The next year, I ran a little during the summer, not as much as I liked to, but I able to improve by about 4 min during tryouts. If I can keep going, work my way from doing a mile faster, then 2 miles, then 3, I know I can get it down to about 20 min, which is when all the other guys would do it. I'm getting better, I can feel myself getting stronger and faster. I was benched this last season because I sucked. I was horrible and they replaced me with the younger guy. I was so angry that entire season and even when they put me in a few games, I always messed it up. I vowed that I would never be in that situation again and I'm working harder now and then I played Emi's arc and now I'm even more motivated.

Ah so weight training isn't really suited for your situation, it seems like cardio and endurance are more effective there. Good thing I didn't do soccer... I did football and for tryouts for my position they made me see if I can get pass through the lines and see if I was able to lift my weight up by myself. Which in turn turned out pretty well. After high school I turned back onto just working out and hitting the gym everyday.

Not at all, my friend, not at all. I can see what you're saying with the endurance and cardio cuz it's soccer but I'm a goalkeeper: I focus on quick bursts of speed from the goal to catch high balls or go one-on-one with an attacker. I'm gaining muscle because my weakness has always been high balls, even though I'm tall, and I can throw my body at the tiny attackers. Also, if I'm not just tall but big, the other team has more to fear. What position do you play, if you don't mind me asking?

I played Defensive End for my high school all 4 years but from where I'm reading you just need short burst speed and jumps. Hmm the only exercise I am certain of those are the weighted sleds. You know the ones where you wear a vest or a belt that is hooker onto a sled with weights on them. It works wonders for me since I have to constantly shoot up from my position and onto the offensive linemen

yeah, I've seen the weighted sleds but it's not like I can buy one and bring it to a field to work out. Plyometrics help me out. It improves footwork and there is usually the short sprint to end the drill. It's also easier to carry a few cones to the field then a sled.

You could try the parachute one! except I think that one's a belt and you gotta run really fast, shouldn't be too hard for you soccer players since that's all you do

I was actually just thinking of that. You're right though, it wouldn't be soccer without the ludicrous amount of running you have to do. But I am comfortably waiting in my net until the other team decides to come and attack me. You think because I'm a goalkeeper I was the fat kid that couldn't run but that actually wasn't the case. I was always tall for my age so I volunteered for the position. I was pretty good so I stuck with it. and that's the story of my life haha

Well I didn't think you were fat, I don't think anyone who played soccer is fat at all. You can also try deadlifting and squatting if it helps and that's good that you volunteered!

I took one for the team I guess. My back day was actually today and I love deadlifting, I love back day in general. I did deadlifts, cable and upright rows, pullups, lat pulldowns, hyperextensions, some shrugs and finished it off with some ab work. Today was a good day.

If you can't find someone to run with, then I really recommend that you listen to music while you run, running to an up tempo beat is very effective at motivating.

Yes it does. Just make sure you skip a day for your rest.

no you only need one day of "true rest" aka doing nothing. I'm at one every two weeks for my training. If you don't run after every workout, the lactic acid won't be moved out of your body. So those "off" days you'd be better served running an easy two to three miles. My sauce is d1 collegiate runner
