I've got blue-yellow colorblindness. It's not as problematic as red-green, but it's still a pain.

The title of the colorblindness is misleading, so I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. Try harder next time, anon.

Imagine if you became blind later in life. All you see is the dark, except at night when you sleep, when none of it is real. Your dreams become your most loved and most hated part of the day. You can see, but it will never be real, always waking up to the dark.

Wait, the three colors we perseve is blue, red, and green and all other colors are a combination of the three? What about YELLOW? Blue and yellow make green.
#41 to #30 - iridium (05/04/2014) [-]
By my understanding of it, the 3 colors we perceive most distinctly are the colors made by the wavelengths at the frequencies. This is why every color screen is made of different shades of green, blue, and red. If you play any video game or use any program where you can edit the individual color palette of something, usually you increase/decrease the quantity of any of those 3 colors. Photoshop defaults to "RGB" mode, which is the standard color model You need to login to view this link see here for how the color mixing works . Also, if you look at any modern screen under a microscope, the pixels are made of those 3 colors.

The idea of the 3 primary colors being "Red Blue and Yellow" really refers to the fact that standard paints of those 3 are historicallyally known to combine to make Purple, Green and Orange. "Primary colors" just mean 3 colors that combine in different amounts, hues, shades, lightnesses etc to make others. Theres RBY, RGB (additve primaries) and even CMY (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow which are called subtractive primaries and are the primary colors for printer ink).

But the 3 colors humans perceive, based on the cells in the human eye are in the blue-violet, green and red range.

Thats ****** up, the Vietnam prison camp thing. My history teacher in high school had us read the accounts from personal diaries of POWs about how on the days the American journalists came to the camp, the prisoners were dressed up and fed and showered and told to stand in a line as journalists walked by them talking about how socialism brought a much greater chance of equality to everyone in Vietnam. The fact that Americans were tortured in those camps was covered up by American journalists.

This is a fact that I found cool a while back. During the early stages of life, before eyes were made, terrestrial and aquatic animals split in terms of evolution families. Neither party had eyes. Fast forward past a lot of time and now both parties have eyes. What this means is that our eyes developed completely independent of eyes found in squids and cephalopods, yet retain a lot of similarities.

I think that's amazing.
For the visual learners.

can somebody who knows better or thinks they do explain to me a little more about color blindness? because i learned that the gene (or w/e is appropriate term?) that causes color blindness is only carried on the Y chromosome and that only men can get it, but i've been called out on it a few times and honestly, i learned that so long ago i forgot the source nd thought it was common knowledge? someone shine some light?
#52 to #45 - lujan (05/04/2014) [-]
Color blindness is an X chromosome mutation. Men only receive one X so if they receive the mutation then they got it. Women has 2 X's so if one gene carries it then the other will compensate. So it is less common for women to get it. And most cases of color blindness is more of a color deficiency. People don't see only in shades of grey like in cartoons, etc. Red/green color blindness means that a lot of color related to red and green will sort of blend together. I'm a biologist and I'm red/green color blind.
