If the public accepts Microsoft's new console, then that's it. Publishers will have won their war against the consumer. Do you think, with absolute control over the entire industry, that this will somehow be of benefit to you?

Cheaper games? Why? They've killed off the second hand market. They never have to compete or lower sale prices. Ever.

Better games? Why? Their wonderful new system prevents you from getting rid of them. Review embargoes prevent you from knowing it's terrible until you've bought it, and then you're stuck with it. Forever.

More games? Why? Their brand new revenue stream ensures more money from less sales - which they'll simply pocket, as has been their stated intention for the past entire console generation.

Don't go swanning over to Sony just yet though! They haven't confirmed anything either!

Content is not mine, I don't know the source, just found it on a forum.

I'm waiting until they announce more. It's rumoured to do almost everything the xbone does, except it doesn't need an internet connection.

Ps4 has more raw power under the hood. Better processor and more storage (base storage, not added harddrives).

Although, I'm on the team of the glorious PC master race, so unless all my buddies get a Ps4, I'm content with where I am. Ill just take my 300 bucks I have stored for the next console and get myself a gtx 680 lol.

I meant stuff like their used game policy, and if it'll be possible to lend games to friends without jumping through hoops.

A disc, if properly taken care of will last more than ten years.

I doubt the xbone's online service will last that long before Microsoft takes it down to focus on the xbox two's online, and when it gets taken down you won't even be able to play your own games, let alone your friend's.

No you can lend it infinite, just can't play it till you put it back in your console.

But you can play without the disc if no one else has played with the disc.

I'm sorry, what i got from your statement was
you can lend it as much as you want, you can't play it until it is back in your console but you CAN play it without the disk if no one else has used the disk in their console.
I read that you can only lend games once.

well what i said is what that article says.

Well its pretty ******* hard to follow the facts when Microsoft keeps changing his mind all the time.

First the used games weren't going to work

Then they were

Then they required a fee

then they required to be installed.

First it was going to be always on

Then it wasn't

Then it was but it required you to log in to internet every 24 hours

Then it could be offline but you could only play for 24 hours.

Microsoft is digging its own grave and every time they try to dig up, they dig down because they were so ******* stupid to understand the concept of digging out of a grave.

see steam, you hate that? didn't think so
User avatar #67 to #53 - stickboysteve (06/08/2013) [-]
you don't spend £50 on a single game on steam though aha ..
#77 to #67 - anonymous (06/08/2013) [-]
Because game companies don't have to charge full price on steam because they make a huge profit margin compared to store bought game sales. Stores like Gamestop push used games over new, so they make the money rather than the developer. Without the used games plaguing the market, devs will have more and more revenue, and game prices will eventually drop.

The only reason some major titles are ever 50 pounds or 60$ on steam is because game devs are told by game sales shops to make it that way, or they will refuse to stock their game new. Gamestop and GAME (in the U.K) basically have control over the business end of the gaming market on consoles. Playstation's intagration with steam is a fantastic step forward, however, because it gives us an alternative.

It will suck major donkey dick that we won't be able to borrow, rent or trade in games once we go digital, but overall it will be a much more stable and enjoyable market.

Anon... signing off..
User avatar #80 to #77 - thewaronbeingcool (06/08/2013) [-]
Oh hey, yet another moron who thinks Total Biscuit knows what he's talking about.

Ok, lets say they get rid of used game sales entirely. Why would they even bother lowering the prices? They know they can get away with charging full price for them, so why bother?
#82 to #80 - anonymous (06/08/2013) [-]
Valid point.

You are right, I saw the totalbiscuit vid and I do agree with him for the most part. Your point is the one thing that urks me about this situation. With no reason to lower prices, they wont. In fact, they will most likely increase them.

You have to think though, if Microsoft suddenly had 70 dollar games and Ps4 had steam prices, who would win there? Prices wont go up dramatically with the destruction of used games, because of competition. (Although, with the way comsumerism and capitalism works I'd assume they would all agree to raise prices at the same time, but who knows.)

I'd hope in the future that Ps4 would start selling games digitally via steam mostly, rather than relying on store sales. With the prices of steams microsoft would be forced to compete or slowly melt away.

I normally hate what total biscuit says, he is stuck up and to be honest is just plain rude. He does have some valid points about the used game market though.
User avatar #83 to #82 - thewaronbeingcool (06/08/2013) [-]
Well I don't know about Gamestop, but he mentioned working at GAME (the UK's equivalent) and said they were rolling in money because of used game sales, which a load of ******** .

They filed for bankruptcy last year, so obviously they're not making that much.

I'm going to sleep, its 7 am here (played Warframe for literally 15 hours today... yay sick time) and I sleepy. Nice to see some people with some actual knowledge on how consoles are doing... peace.
#84 to #83 - anonymous (06/08/2013) [-]
Gamestop in america is rolling in the money. No kidding, they have an iron grip on the market.
You want a game in America? Is it a newer console game? GAMESTOP! There are literally 2 on every corner (No joking, there are 2 gamestops in the same ******* outlet mall here) and they SHOVE their promotional offers down your throat. Its worse than an angry christian preaching to the "Fag" about how they are going to hell.
In all seriousness here, you make valid points and for the most part you are right, the market prices won't drop soon if ever. Inflation will see to that. However, the companies are starting to move in the direction of digital games, and steam proves how effective that market is. DLC and other fully digital add-ons to existing games are already crazy popular, and will only get more popular.
The answer isn't should we or shouldn't we get rid of used games, its when is it happening. Game companies make more money via digital transactions and will over time move to it.

uuuh, for that 30 friends list thing it isn't to sell a game, its to GIVE a game, you must be friends with someone for 30 days before you can GIVE them your game, you can choose to sell it to that person if you wish, but its to give them the game, there is no charge at all, its completely free, as far as for how many times you can give that game to someone is a mystery

Source: Am actual email from gamestop

Nonetheless, everyone has there own taste, let people buy what they want

User avatar #38 - ThpiderMan (06/08/2013) [-]
I'm just going to be one of the few people not jumping on every consoles cock before it ******* releases. People who buy systems at launch are crazy, and having brand loyalty in this business is equally crazy. Wait a bit. See what the consensus is once there is a product to judge. Xbox One definitely looks like the ********* end of the stick right now, but a lot isn't known, and much will be better defined at E3.

Check out it's most of the information presented here presented more clearly. I have a 3DS, PS3, 360, and a PsVita, i usually have my 3ds or vita on me when ridin the bus to work or waitin between classes at uni, but i hardly play my consoles anymore. Gaming is getting so homogenized, it just keeps making less and less sense to have multiple consoles, so I'll wait til E3 shows me some exclusive from every side to see what shines brightest.

All that being said, I'm downloading "The Last of Us" right now, and I am so ******* excited. I treated it to a media blackout after the game informer reveal, and am hoping it's awesome.
#40 to #38 - iamnotcool (06/08/2013) [-]
" I'm downloading "The Last of Us" right now"
People like you are the reason why game companies are supporting these ridiculous forms of DRM. We are lucky that Sony is not making DRMs obligatory on the PS4. Why don't you wait and buy the game when it is finally released and support ******* Dogg?
User avatar #41 to #40 - ThpiderMan (06/08/2013) [-]
I used the wrong word, i was adding funds to my playstation network account to pre-order from the playstation network so it downloads when it releases, obviously ******* Dog, owned by sony, sees profit from that, just as much if not more so than a physical copy.

So slow your role and calm yourself.

Besides, I have pirated precisely 1 game in my life. Age of Empires 3, a game i own along with all expansions, but i wanted the cd image so i could play it without having the disc in the tray. I have the game on the shelf, but using my cd tray while playing with my ****** fan makes my computer overheat, so i have to work around it.

I own over 220 games on steam, over 110 games on xbox live, and about 40 on psn. I am someone that loves digital games, and as someone that has passionately supported it, I am waiting for news on what the Xbox 1 will do with my collection. It likely will be disrespectful and pretend they don't exist, making up some ******** as to why Super Pacman Fighter HD XD 3 can't run on Xbox 1, considering microsoft's disrespect of it's customers with the xbox 1 has been pretty overwhelming.
User avatar #37 - numbertwozeldafan (06/08/2013) [-]
Lol, and people still think that Microsoft will be a game developer in 10 years.
#36 - anonymous (06/08/2013) [-]
you guys are idiots if you think this is going to change anything. Little do you know Gamestop (The game retailer) is making BILLIONS of dollars a year, because of the used game market. They buy games for 10$ then sell them back to people at 55...only 5 cheaper then the game new. Why isn't anyone mad a gamestop for doing it? Its not that Microsoft is greedy, its them taking advantage of a HUGE MARKET, something sony is going to do to because if they don't, they will lose money
All Microsoft is doing is expanding on the system 10's of millions of people already love.
User avatar #74 to #36 - thewaronbeingcool (06/08/2013) [-]
Oh hey, another moron who thinks Total Biscuit knows what he's talking about.

They have to push used games because they make around 2% profit from selling a new game.

Now I don't know about Gamestop, but he mentioned working at GAME (UK's equivalent) and said they were rolling in money from used game sales, which is ******** . GAME filed for bankruptcy last year, and were only saved at the last minute. If there were really making so much money from used game sales, I really doubt they would've been in such dire economic straits.
