It's typical Russian sci-fi about the destruction of the noosphere. It's an Original book called Metro 2033, which style of writing is heavily based off Roadside Picnic by the strugatsky brothers.

Completely unrelated to Genesis of Shannara.

I mean shit, GoS came out in 2006 or so, in America, Metro 2033 came out in 05 in Russia.
