Brienne got kicked in the vagina.
A giant shot a javelin-arrow through a guy's chest and catapulted him.
The crazy lady and her tit-suckling babe got schooled.
How can you not simply be content with this season?

no, but what's wrong is people becoming so emotionally involved in it and posting post after post about it and how they will have nothing to occupy their tiny little sheep minds between seasons. I ******* LOVE x-files, futurama, South Park, mighty boosh - but I don't flip out about it. I encourage others to watch if they're interested and I discuss episodes with others who have seen it and use the content to talk about other aspects of reality and not just "oh my gawd - George RR Tolkein killed another character!" No - I instead talk about how that one episode where Bender got the upgrade to be compatible with the robot 1x is so brilliant because it shows us that we have no real proof about our own reality. This was also the theme of the film Total Recall and I think even that film is based on a book which is based on ideas from a German philosopher. So... I don't go around posting about [insert current TV show joke here] "Jesse! We gotta cook!" or "timey-wimey sonic toothbrush" or whatever... I enjoy art in the form of music, TV, film and performance and use it to enrich my life and the lives of those around me.

read my comment again. LIKING a TV show is OK. Obsessing over it and feeding the social media machine that single-handedly kills traditional and natural social interaction IS a bad thing.

This generation knows how to "troll" users and how to know when a meme is funny, how to put new twists on it and when it is no longer funny. But do they know how to form arguments and cite sources and defend themselves in arguments without simply pointing to how many invisible internet points they have? No.

Of course they do. This is possibly the overall most informed and most educated generation there has ever been. As always, there's a lot of bad eggs, but don't let that divert your attention from the sheer wonder that is a society full of people whose brains are constantly pumped with new information about the world every day, half of which would never have been available to our parents' generations unless they made the effort to seek that information every day.

you are one of them. It is not the majority, though. Since 2012, the supposed "end of this world", we have reached a new form of sociologica evolution. We sit on one side, the twitter/youtube/game of thrones - addicts on the other.

And actually, I read an independent study in Germany just yesterday that shows better grades in school as 10 years ago, IQ maybe the same or slightly higher, but far less general knowledge and data retention. But we can't judge a whole generation by a few tests. We just have to keep our heads up, continually evolve and not give up on the rest.

can i see your source?
I feel like you're tacking on the far less general knowledge part trying to pass your opinion through as fact. I could be wrong, but i haven't seen this report/article yet

There are always people who will get hyped up over nothing or over rumors and there are always people who rely on facts. However judging a new sociological evolution when it is only 2 years old is by far an assumption and not a fact.

here you go, sir. It's in German, but probably google can help you there. Important to understand would be the German school system:

Abitur is like a high school degree
1 is 100% (A+)

have fun!

PS I like your last sentence. The sociological evolution is not old, it has just hit a new generation. It still needs to be studied. I was in maybe 4th or 5th grade in the US when internet started becoming commonplace, so we had extra lessons on how to search for information on the internet, how to interpret it and see whether it is valuable or trustworthy, and how to cite it. By the time I was in high school, all our information was from online encyclopedias and such. These days, Wikipedia is actually quite good, and there are tons of online free libraries where the old-style Last Name, Page # citations can be used, BUT still people tend to trust a well layed-out infographic instead of doing independent research or reading trusted publications. I am also a culprit: I often say to my friends, "hey! Did you hear that XXX?" ANd I saw it only on Funny Junk. But we ususally end up then researching to verify and continue on so.

Anyway, peace and love.

You claim to be educated, but you simply talk down to everyone on a forum style website, so you're either a massive waste of an education, or simply a child who believes they know everything about the world. There are many people on here that have seen much more of the world than you could imagine, lived through experiences you couldn't even think of, and still sit down to the same entertainment as the "sheep" you so thoroughly condemn. This show in particular I started watching on a busted up laptop in the middle of a ******** in Afghanistan, and even though I don't understand some of the outrage, blowing up and claiming everyone is brainless, sheltered zombies is pretentious to an absurd degree. You need to learn some ******* humility, or at least learn to keep your own damn arrogance to yourself.

yes, yes - we have an independent thinker here! ding ding ding!

hey man, I'm using exaggerated cynicism to point out a potential social flaw and hopefully it comes across somewhat comical. Is it not generally "funny" when someone crosses a line intentionally to point out a social flaw in us? Isn't that what good comedians do?

"I hate ******* gays."

statement sounds ignorant, right?

"It's always so hard to get the taste of **** and dick out of my mouth afterward."

Either we thought, "yeah, I hate gays too, man. Oh ****, he meant he literally doesn't like having sex with them - he himself is gay - oh boy, do I feel stupid now" OR we think "what an ignorant cunt! what's wrong with gays? OH! I see! He was doing a play words. Ha ha - that's funny."

In a similar sense, I wanted to do the following:

"Hey FJ! You are all sheeple for liking the same things and freaking out about them and posting variations on a theme until the next TV show comes out. There is not a single independent thought among you."

to which everyone freaks the **** out, downthumbs, comments, and in doing so, my hope is that some people think to themselves, "gee - look at all these downvotes without comment. Does that mean some of us indeed are mindless sheep? Simply downvoting something because it made fun of me and something I hold dear?" Or maybe others think "**** this faget - I'm not addicted to Game of Thrones and I don't post a ton of **** about them. I just enjoy the show. But I can see how someone from the outside would see post after post about GoT or GTA or Breaking Bad or <insert popular thing here> and could conclude that FJ is a place where people go to just talk about whatever's popular until it is no longer popular. Hrm.... there is a nugget of truth here. This faget's comment got me thinking, and that feels just as good as laughing in this otherwise dark and dreary world."

Perhaps nobody has such an intense religious experience as the latter, but...

I ended up watching Breaking Bad. I thought it would have been better as three 3-hour films instead of 62 45-minute installments. Also, I feel that the family and relational aspect of the show was pushed so much and too hard. As a drug user, I was interested in how they portrayed "drug dens" or whatever you want to call them. We only ever saw a few, and they were all terrible. Now, drugs can indeed ruin lives, but in suburban New Mexico, I'd imagine there to be many more white, upper-middle-class drug parties with upstanding citizens and everyone only doing a few noses and having a great time and not becoming meth heads.

But guess that was kind of the point of the show.

I guess for me it got boring because there never was a new topic - it was always the same - I need to make drugs either to pay bills or fix some **** that happened or just to feel happy - but my family can't know about it - and it gets increasingly dangerous with the cartel. The story with the Mexican cartel and eventually the German distributor was pretty sweet, but it didn't warrant 62 episodes. The film Blow also had a great plot of selling drugs and getting in over one's head.

anyway - was just my two cents. But things on FJ got out of hand with every other post being "Jesse, we need to cook" or "Heisenberg is my hero"

Although the "THEY'RE NOT ROCKS, THEY'E MINERALS!" joke made me laugh every single time.

peace

obviously not you. Maybe most people never have an existential crisis and are happy being spoon-fed cheap entertainment and never have an urge to go on doing something great with their lives. I guess this is good. If everyone on our entire planet tried to really make something of themselves, then there would simply be too much beautiful art and too many brilliant scientists that make the world a better place. It's good that only a few have opened their eyes, got their head out of the troth and looked up in the sky and thought, "this can't be everything there is to life. There must be more..."

peace and love

the word voice isn't only used to describe audible tones which are produced by our vocal cords. The voice of a writer is how he presents himself - similar to how two people can say the same thing completely differently by variations in their audible voices, so can authors project a voice in their writing:

"Get away from me, faget"
vs.
"While I agree that everyone should be able to choose their own sexual preference, I prefer that you keep it to yourself when near me."

You see? Two different voices saying nearly the same thing. So....

When you use GIFs from Drake and Josh to speak for you, you relinquish that means "give up" the ability to speak for yourself, i.e. Latin "id est" or "that is" use your own voice. We learned about that in grade school and I thought it seemed pretty important. I guess these days kids are just satisfied with emoticons and atrocious spelling and quick memes.

You're like the eighth person to call me 12 this month. Congrats! It's the only insult that you baboons have the mental capacity to hold in your ***************! So if you'll excuse me, I'll be sitting on my end of the computer being 19, while you - yes YOU - will probably be sitting on yours enjoying your sweet 16th.
So good bye
good luck
and **** OFF.

Don't you think the fact that people think you're 12 has more to do with the fact that you act that way, and not that we're "stupid enough to use that insult"

I'm 18, but okeh

yes, feed the mindless sheeple who have nothing to do otherwise with their lives. BAAAAH! BAAAH! We need something to talk about so we don't have to spend any time marveling and the wonders of the universe and the complexities and nuances of our insanely beautiful reality!

BAAAAHHH!!!!

I want to also point out that people might listen more if you're less aggressive and condescending in how you voice these things. You're far from the only person who has had these revelations. Most people I know have come to this conclusion once or twice in their lives as well and have briefly become livid about it. Most people on this website, I'd say, have also thought or think as you do.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with you - I just don't vehemently try to fight it because I don't know how yet. I don't have the tools. If I figure it out, maybe it'll be worth the effort, but until then I'd rather not actively antagonise everyone around me and consequently turn them against me.

yeah, I was touting this argument in a few places yesterday. Eventually my cynicism turned into an earnest plea for everyone just to take a moment and think about their actions and their lives. I'm a firm believer and practitioner of peace and love, and that's ultimately how things get done. I thought people also might just get a chuckle out of such a blatant "you are all sheeple" comment, but it ended up hurting them more than making them laugh (which is good - it means I struck a chord with them)

In any event, those who needed to see this and think about things have, and the rest just got a good chuckle. In the end it's "to each his own" so the only thing we can do is strive for happiness and peace through love.

This is an important social interaction - perhaps the most important one you'll have today. You have the unique opportunity to have your values challenged. You can either feel hurt by this challenge and close your heart and mind to possible change or you can consider, even if just for a moment, a view that is different from your own.

I've been sick in bed the past few days. Normally I preach my **** outside in the real world, or only once in a while when I can't sleep. Actually, this was kind of both rolled up in to one.

But agreed - addicted to a website can also be unhealthy. But you all know that already and just ignore it. I make a conscious effort to keep an online life under control and not let it take control of my life. I'm 30 years old, have a job, have a band that does a bunch of touring, I've lived in several countries, I get out a lot. The only danger for me is that instead of going to sleep or getting out of bed to start my work day, I sit around and try to tell people on FJ how they are sheeple ;)

Keep your head up - life is beautiful. I think I'll go outside for a bit today and meditate upon that. Thank you, prideful Matthew.

Cheers!

I am a person. Please treat me as such.

I really think it is unhealthy to be so obsessed with a TV show that you freak out about it when the season ends. You should be excited that you can now use what you've learned in the series and apply its philosophical lessons to your life.

I am a person and my name is Mike and it bothers me that so many people seemingly blindly follow whatever trends happen to be on the internet to quench their thirst for belonging. I personally have found solace in a) just trying to be myself [it means something particular to me, and is different for everyone] and b) relating to other humans on a general level as opposed to a "hey, we are addicted to the same TV show, let's beat this dead horse until the next one comes instead of genuinely trying to get to know one another or further ourselves or our generation".

I think I've written enough of this pseudo-philosophical ******** today. I should probably stop before I come off too preachy. To each his own. If following trends excites you, then continue doing it. Happiness is more important than anything else in ones reality (in my opinion).

peace and love

that second post sounds 100% less cancerous and made me understand your point of view a lot better than the first.

People like people who are similar to them. It's a very basic human instinct so when Billy likes your favorite show you already feel very positively about him despite not knowing a whole lot about him. mostly because you feel you are alike and he will act like you act. making him less unknown and less scary.

Ahh, to be 30 and have everyone think you're just 13 - but not being able to prove it. 'Tis a great feeling <sips on my whiskey-cola>

The same way you cannot prove that you even exist, actually. Nor can I.

In any event, these words and themes have struck a chord with FJers, so it's definitely a hot topic. Nobody has to believe me or think I'm right, nor should they simply reject what I say and hate me. I'd love it if people just took a second, looked up at the ceiling, and considered, "hrm... as crazy as it sounds, maybe there is something to this whole individualism vs. groupism thing after all..." It may not come in the form I described, but the whole idea is to think for one's self and to make one's own decisions.

Peace and love.

the "go back to sleep America" line was a tribute to Bill Hicks, so I wanted to be as close to the quote as possible.

Please read the comment again - it's not about whether or not the show is good - it's about hyping the **** out of it and going into a depression when the season ends. That is not healthy.

I see your point of view, and can sympathize the point of GoT being more than just a "get the revenge you want to see" kind of book. What I took from it was her mental breakdown, killing in the name of "justice" soon becomes a bloodgurgling rampage without discrimination. It shows the difference between justice and chaos, like that between the more organized (but not innocent) American Revolution, and the ultra-violent, bloodthirsty French Revolution.
