The true throne

“Marc [Simonetti] has come closer here to capturing the Iron Throne as I picture it than any other artist to tackle it. From now on, THIS will be the reference I give to every other artist tackling a throne room scene. This Iron Throne is massive. Ugly. Assymetric. It’s a throne made by blacksmiths hammering together half-melted, broken, twisted swords, wrenched from the hands of dead men or yielded up by defeated foes… a symbol of conquest… it has the steps I describe, and the height. From on top, the king dominates the throne room. And there are thousands of swords in it, not just a few. This Iron Throne is scary. And not at all a comfortable seat, just as Aegon intended.”

Looking at it it makes me hard to think that Jofrey didnt even wanted to sit on it. I mean yeah it has a lot of historical value and al,l but non confortable, he would have demanded for a new one...we all know how Jofrey used to think.

One thing that always bothered me was how in the books they made a big deal about how Jeofrey was constantly cutting himself on the throne. He constantly had little cuts on his arms and hands and they went on about how you don't sit on the throne lightly you have to be deliberate and thoughtful.

Was one of my favorite metaphors in the book and I hat e that it never made it into the show.

.....God dammit, they are switching rulers often as it's, now you want them to trip and get impaled every 3-4 month too?!

Funnily enough, there was a king during the reign of the Targaryens who slipped on the steps of the throne and was killed horribly by impaling himself on the spiky mass. Also, Mad King Aerys was constantly getting nicks and cuts on his hands from the throne.

That chair does occasionally kill people.

Actually, wasn't the Iron Throne forged by the breath of Aegon's dragon, not blacksmiths?

Another version done by the same artist.
Marc Simonetti has some of the best art for Game of Thrones, would recommend if you've read all the book.s (I can not stress that enough.)

it was fabled to cut the unjust kings. The blades were not dulled, so you had to sit very rigid to not get cut. If I remember correctly, it sliced Joffery often.

You can make a throne of bayonets, but can't sit on it comfortably for long.

im pretty sure the only reason the throne looks as small as it does in the show is due to a much lower budget in the first season.

As much as I hate Joffrey, if I saw him on that ******* thing, I would be forced to concede some respect to him; you do not **** with a man (boy) who sits in that chair for a living.
