> hey anon, wanna give your opinion?
anyone else agree that renly would have been the only 'good' king for the realm?
None of the Baratheon brothers were ever suited to be king - Robert was a drunken buffoon who was better suited as a warrior, Renly was too young and not exceptionally wise, and while Stannis would run the realm efficiently, he's too cold and unforgiving, and would've been unloved by the people even before he joined up with Melisandre.
But of the people who fought for the throne or realm after Robert's death Renly would have been the only one to be truly loved and run the kingdom pretty well. I mean, yeah, he would have been showboating, a braggart, gay (which some people would've disapproved of, though I think he's awesome) and inexperienced. Besides look who the other options, Stannis would run the realm efficiently ,but he would have been extremely stern, stubborn, and abhorred by the common people and maybe his own court as well, in the end his body count might have been higher than Joffrey's because of his stubbornness and iron will and although his claim is legitamit most of the people don't know that is they think he is just a jealous brother trying to seize the throne; although the same could be said of Renly he has the advantage of having support and being loved by almost all. Speaking of Joffrey, it's obvious that he's a cruel sadist ,but he's also extremely incompetent as a king, the only time he ever gets anything right is when someone is whispering into his ******* ear, telling him what to do and if the person influencing him is witless like Cersei or self-involved like 'liitlefinger' then the kingdom will suffer for it. Now Tyrion would make an excellent king ,but the people would absolutely hate and blame him for all their woes. Tywin would be a good leader ,but he would've been almost as cold as Stannis also the people might not be overjoyed by that prospect. Robb has the same problem as his father he's so honor bound that he's blind to mostly everything that would contradict with his precious honor. Dany is like a continent away and you want to talk about inexperienced then Dany would be a premium example. Balon is just...no...just no. And yes I have read the books.
Robb's intention was never to rule the Seven Kingdoms, just to secede the North from the other six. He was well on his way to see that dream, but his three critical errors (sending Theon back to Pyke, breaking his vow to Walder Frey and executing Lord Karstark) and Catelyn's one (releasing Jaime) cost them the North, the war, and their lives.
Balon wanted to bring back the old way of the ironborn; he wasn't concerned with taking the Seven Kingdoms. It's Euron who has that crazy idea, and I strongly suspect Victarion or the Dhampair will put him down before he gets the chance.
I repeat what I said about the Baratheons being unsuited to rule. Being loved does not make one a good leader, and while Renly would've been loved by the people for a while, charisma alone cannot run a kingdom, and charisma was Renly's only real strength; he was too young, inexperienced and foolish to run the realm. That goes double for Daenerys, though I think she's on the way to maturing up and actually being an effective leader, but I suspect she's going to be heading east as Quaithe told her to before she ever heads for Westeros. I can't speak for Aegon, since we haven't seen much of him so far.
As for the Lannisters, Tywin is everything I said about Stannis times ten, with even less regard for human life; no man who lets monsters like Amory Lorch, Gregor Clegane or the Bloody Mummers run free is fit to be a ruler. Joffrey was Aerys the second. Cersei is a paranoid moron who thinks herself the equal of her father. Tyrion would actually be a pretty effective leader, but as you said, everyone would despise him. If Tommen is taken away from Cersei's influence, and surrounded by the right people, he MIGHT grow up to be a pretty good king, assuming something doesn't happen to him.
As Varys put it, "Littlefinger would see this nation burn if he could rule the ashes". The War of Five Kings was his doing, and he did it to get revenge on Catelyn for scorning him.
At the moment, none of the people vying for control of the Seven Kingdoms are particularly qualified to run them. This could change in the future; we've yet to see what Aegon will do, Dany could likely get some wisdom, or another factor could come into play to turn everything around, but until then, the game of thrones is being played by a bunch of incompetent, inexperienced or otherwise incapable players.
