That's why I love it, really. Every other thing about it's great of course but the sheer brutal reality of it all, it's refreshing. I was watching Doctor Who a couple weeks back and Clara refused to do make a the decision to kill this creature to save Earth, it being Doctor Who everything turned out okay and everyone was fine. I was watching it and I just felt cheated, no matter what they do things always work out, it's frustrating, because that's not reality, in reality when you take a risk you usually lose, in reality when you can't make the hard decision and are paralyzed into inaction then things get ****** . I love that in GoT you have to be smart, you have to be careful, and above all you've got to be lucky, because if you bet and you lose, you lose everything. It's actually kind of ruined other things for me, when I start a movie now I know by the end everything will be okay and everyone, or almost everyone, will be fine and happy, and it cheapens everything leading up to it.
I'm not saying that I don't like to read or that I don't like fantasy fiction or anything... But to me, Martin's writing is as bland as a police report: it's a series of simple statements. I like visceral, intuitive, creative imagery in what I read and what I write, and the novels don't provide that. I go to Heller and Heinlein and Douglas and Pratchett when I want some well-written fiction.
I respectfully disagree. Then again, Stephen King is one of my favorite authors and I've heard similar complaints made about his writing style, so maybe my taste is off.
Meh, I don't agree with all their choices but at least it makes it more interesting. I hope they pull the next seasons out of their ass so that they don't spoil the books.
Not really. They have already exhausted Bran's material and they're almost pretty much done with everybody else. Adter that they will either stop production fr a while, make up the story or take it directly from george before the books come out. It was a simillar case with fullmetal alchemist when the show caught up to the manga. The writer told them to make up the ending and it was acually really good and very different from the actual ending. So much so that it made it worthwhile to watch both series that are out, the one with the studio ending and the one with the actual ending. They could do the same here.
